Don't mean to rain on your parade but this vintage of ladders has had 'issues'. For decades the ladders were made of CORTEN high-tensile and yield steel that is also ''4 to 6 times more resistant'' to rust and/or corrosion than mild steel. Years from approx. 76 thru approx. 81 are the suspect years. AS SOMEONE WHO HAD 3 LADDERS FAIL WITH THIS VINTAGE, JUST WANT YOU TO BE AWARE OF WHAT YOU'RE WORKING WITH.

This truck should stay in Elmira as part of the cities history as well as American La France...if you let it go, no telling where it will end up or worse as scrap...

Grew up on the Southside of Emira not far from either the old or new American Lafrance. My husband was a painter there until the day they closed.

I was a weldor there in the 60s and early 70s, favorite job there was building the superstructure for the ladder thucks.

I worked at american lafrance for 18 years. I worked on installing lights. I would love for this last fire truck to stay here locally!
