We the undersigned respectfully request that you consider our position against the proposal of the closing of Duncan Elementary and rezoning of the remaining schools in the Comanche neighborhoods.
Many of us moved into these neighborhoods because of the proximity of the schools. Closing and rezoning presents problems that concern us as parents of young students. Some of those problems are as follows.
- If there is an emergency, or my child is sick, how am I supposed to get to the proposed school for 4th and 5th grade, Meadows Elementary, without a car? There is no public transportation.
- If my child misses the bus, how will they get to school? This in turn means they stay home, and KISD has a higher absence rate and or tardiness for the school year.
- How long will my child/children be on the bus?
- How early will I have to wake my child to get on the bus?
- What about those who take advantage of reduced or free meals and need to be at school for breakfast hours? Will the bus take that into consideration and time accordingly?
- Will there be a bus for those planned to attend Hobby that live over a mile from the school? Will there be an adult to supervise the children? Aside from the bus driver. Hobby is proposed to be PK-3 and those children will need supervision.

I have spent hours this week looking at the proposed bus routes and the reality of the commute for our youngest children is even worse than I imagined. My own daughter relies on the morning routine at Duncan to start her day right and I refuse to let the district dismantle that stability without a fight.

Seeing this kind of movement in our community reminds me why we chose these streets for our children in the first place. My heart is full knowing so many neighbors refuse to let our school be taken away without a fight.

Parents with children in multiple grades will have to either rush to make each school in time or just enroll all of their children into a different school! We never were given a reason for this possible closure, yet we do deserve one.
The closing of Duncan is more that just an inconvenience. It will mean extra time away from home for our still young elementary school age children. Less time for homework, extracurricular activities and family. The wiser choice would be to completely rezone all the schools and keep children at their local elementary school rather than busing them to the farthest possible school from their home.
Please you cannot just down duncan, for the first time in many years my children actually want to go to school. They love the teachers and staff, my daughters grades and my son's have soared. Shutting down this school is going to make a major impact on alot of children.
This not only inpacts a lot of family that have one car but in inpacks my child who have some changes and me not being able to get to tje school if I get a call know my husband has the car and cant leave work all the time.
Please keep the school open. My Grandchildren go to this school and changing schools often is very hard on military children. Every few years they are forced to be the 'new kid' so closing their school just adds more stress to their year, and puts them at a disadvantage again. Especially if it can be avoided, since they are not moving to another base.
I know longer live in This neighborhood, however I do know the benefits of this school and believe in the questions raised in this petition
This school should be left open why can't com 2 and 3 have their 4th and 5th grades at Duncan and pre k thru 3 go to either Hobby or Clark, keep everyone close to their home for those who have 1 car and sickly children

We chose to live in Comanche 3 because of how close it was to the school. As a family with only one vehicle, it was essential that my children attend a school that was within walking distance. If Duncan closes, my family will most likely have to move.
