Dr. Petrucci has been nothing but helpful to me this whole semester. I have tried my hardest to study the material and prepare for the exams. Dr. Petrucci helped me do better on exams and was very understanding. He always explained things in a clear manor that helped me succeed in this class. I had to work hard for it but Dr. Petrucci helped me figure out for myself what I needed to learn.

I have had a full load this semester taking 17 credits, getting married, volunteering outside of school and working two jobs. There were a lot of times that I was not able to be in class or make it for the in class exams. Dr. Petrucci was very understanding and would take the time to meet with me in his office even if it was outside of his office hours. It is easy to tell that he is passionate about helping students, this is hard to find with a lot of professors. I have loved having him as a professor.

I am in my 4th year of college and there have been very few teachers that, from an academic point of view, felt like they really understood the student. Dr. Petrucci is one of those teachers. His class has been the only class I have taken at UVU that I actually enjoyed attending and felt that I was learning thing that I could apply outside of the class room, and this is more then just the material we were intended to learn in the class. He has a real talent for being a teacher, talented teachers are much much more then what is on their resume, and if this goes through the university is going to lose, hands down, one of its greatest instructors. It disturbs me that a university, such as UVU, has broken its own rules and regulations in Dr. Petrucci's situation. What sort of example does this provide for the students who attend here? That it is ok to break rules if it's easy and fast? That the individual doesn't matter? This is especially depressing considering this is one of their own. This is not what I have been taught throughout my time in college. The politics behind education should not excuse for the ridiculous and unethical way in which it is currently conducting itself. UVU is better than this. UVU is a university and that is a hard and difficult role to play. You have to be understanding yet demanding. You are judged for every tiny detail and have to explain everything you do. This is exactly why UVU can never take the easy way. UVU has to be an example and a light on a hill. This action against Dr. Petrucci is a starch defiance of what UVU is and stands for.

Dr. Petrucci is a good teacher and should be kept at UVU. Likely, most of the complaints are due to bitter students. UVU is trying to build it's reputation and Dr. Petrucci is committed to that goal.

Dr. Petrucci is awesome. Both in research and as a professor I have appreciated his teaching methods. He truly is passionate about biochemistry and simplifies the subjects so they are understandable.

Dr. Petrucci greatly influenced me to pursue a PhD. I'm starting a program in the fall due to him. I loved his classes and lab. I learned so much from them. You could tell that he actually cared about the students and their success. It is shameful they are letting him go.

I may be biased because I am Dr. Petrucci's wife, but I believe that I have a very personal perspective of how much Dr. Petrucci loves his students and cares for the mission of UVU to provide amazing education to all, especially first-generation students and minorities. He is himself a first-generation college graduate and he has made it his mission to help his students excel, and believe in themselves. I have watched him work hard, and dedicate much effort and time to doing what he could to help his students succeed. He was also involved with two programs: Inclusion Committe and First Generation Initiative that he believed in and felt strongly in their missions. I truly believe that he should not be let go and am sorry that current circumstances are what they are. We will be sad to leave UVU. Thank you for your support!

UVU likes to concern itself with student outcomes. Image is important to them. Under David's mentorship, I built a cancer research project from scratch, wrote two grants (with his stellar edits), and funded it. Beyond that, with Petrucci's glowing reference, I successfully landed a research position at a prestigious private university which asked for WAY higher qualifications than what I had. I'm moving my whole family out of state right after the semester ends.
Where am I going with this? As I said, UVU concerns itself with student outcomes. I dare you to find another faculty member who can generate hard, tangible, positive outcomes like David has.
But if we put aside all of that - if we pretend to ourselves that David is simply a middle-of-the-road average instructor - he is simply a good man who doesn't deserve this. I've been to his home, eaten dinner with his family, watched in terror as his son played with a drill, and laughed the whole way through.
I find it very likely that this petition will not cause the renewal of his teaching contract. Instead, I leave this post because he deserves not to have his name tarnished. We all know who Dr. Petrucci is, and who he is not. I recommend to anyone who is confused with the situation to do what the whole GD administration failed to do: seek out the facts.

Because of his willingness to help me throughout the semester, I was able to bring my grade of from a 50% at the beginning of the semester to a 91% before the final exam without a curve, and without handing out points. I have never been able to do this with other professors, and I think that his teaching methods are perfect for what UVU stands for. He allows everyone to gather their own education, do their own research, and learn their own material without compromising the class and its overall education.

I graduated from another university and am now back in school. The approach that Dr Petrucci takes in teaching had me regretting my previous choice of university. The way he educates, communicates with, and supports his students is unique in my educational experience and truthfully excellent. He is also constantly trying to make improvements and help his students. I have no idea why UVU would want to let a educator like that go.

It's a shame to let Dr. petrucci go. The only disservice uvu is doing is to themselves. For the first time I felt I understood and excelled in my chem lab . Dr. Petrucci took the time to explain and go over core concepts when professors in the past just give us the lab assignment for the day an disappear behind their desk. He walked around, asked questions to help you think through what was happening in your experiment . Wherever he goes , that place will be better for it.

I'm a senior at UVU and Dr. Petrucci has easily been one of my top five favorite professors. He dedicated ALL of his time and effort in befriending/teaching us passionately. He deserves this job, hands down.
