Coronado has a longstanding tradition of nonpartisan elections for our nonpartisan offices, and we would like to keep it that way by removing active partisan interference and related advertising for partisan-endorsed candidates.
“Active partisan interference” in this context includes, but is not limited to, in-person solicitations, distribution of door hangers, flyers, leaflets, mailers, robocalls, and any other advertising for partisan-endorsed candidates.
While it may be a constitutional right for organizations to conduct partisan advertising for nonpartisan offices, it is also the constitutional right of citizens to respectfully request that such partisan advertising stop in our town. Coronado’s elected positions for Mayor, City Council and School Board are defined by the California Constitution and County Registrar of Voters as “nonpartisan” offices.

The engagement on this petition acknowledges the clear public demand for protecting our local nonpartisan election integrity. I am currently drafting a formal letter to the City Council to present these concerns as a primary agenda item for our next municipal review meeting.

Let's get Coronado's elections back to to the way they were when I grew up - nonpartisan.
Non-partisan local governance was very effective in other places I have lived both in recruitment of candidates and in problem solving.
Bailey is just using a Coronado to prove to the Republican Party he can be a viable candidate for another office. He will drop us like a hot potato in 2 years if he wins and right away if he loses.
I’m a registered Republican but see no need to have PAC money in or influence our local elections. I would also like to see the individual contribution limit raised to $250 from the current $200. With the current system, a husband and wife donating a total of $400 instead of my proposed $500, there is almost never a conflict of interest raised due to the FPPC limit set at $500 to create a “conflict”.
Stop the partisan, "money matters" dismantling of my Great Grandmother's hometown! Now! Disgusting!
The only thing Bailey is good at is pandering to the rich republicans in Nado.

Great analysis Daron! I was unhappy to discover that at least one viable Mayoral candidate would not run for fear of the Bailey hit squad.
