Keep Clive Craigen at Moody Bible Institute

Clive impacted my life among thousands in the inner city communities through cohorts. He is a warrior for the Lord.

Professor Craigen was such a positive part of my Moody experience. His contagious love of Christ, experiential knowledge of urban ministry, love for all people's, and unending supply of time for a student in need made him a lifesaver for me, and many other students as well. It truly saddens me to hear his contract was not renewed, and I hope this decision will be overturned.

My experience at Moody would not have been complete without Craigen, and honestly I'm not sure I would have stayed. His passion and unmatched life experience brought meaning to his teaching and value to the relationship he built with students like me.

Great Prof that brings some very needed characteristics to the institute that other professors don’t as exemplified in how involved he is in the things that go on at Moody.

Craigen was a powerful impact on my ministry and my relationship with Christ. Because of him I am now better able to reflect Christ to the world around me.

What a loss to MBI it would be to not have Clive.

I learned so much in his urban ministry class that helped me in the future.

Clive Craigen truly transformed the way that I think about the gospel and was one of the professors that consistently made his classes focused around worship. He really challenged the way that I thought at that time, but what truly made him a gift at the school was his passion, humility and gracious personality.

Clive was instrumental to my formation as a pastor. His concern for the city and for the church to actually represent the diversity expressed in the New Creation pressed me into deeper reflection on my upbringing and privilege. If Moody doesn't renew his contract they will be losing a prominent voice for justice and practical theological reflection from their faculty. Clive offers a different voice, one that evangelicalism desperately needs to hear. I would be the first to admit that I never always agreed with Clive about everything, but he challenged me to think more critically and made me consider how theology should be lived out. If that's not sufficient reason to retain him on faculty, I simply don't know what is.

Clive Craigen has always been an asset to MBI. Both to students, as I was, as well as to the voice he has within leadership. I believe his voice there at MBI is critical. He brings experience and perspective that will be sorely lacking. A place like MBI needs to listen to the voices that stand up for the marginalized and oppressed. Clive has always done that even though he knows it will cost him his own comfort and security. I know he does this out of a Christ like desire to amplify the voice of those who have and continue to be muted. It is never done with the intent to be divisive.

Professor Craigen is what Moody needs. He is someone who exemplifies the life that he teaches about. His voice, his teaching style, his listening ear, his wisdom, and many of his other qualities have given comfort and hope to students who have found themselves within the margins or caring about the people there. He is certainly a gift from God. Professor Craigen is what Moody needs.

Moody has been under fire very recently and in large part because of a lack of transparency. Students, alumni, donors, and supporters appreciate honesty. Don’t hide behind false reasons. Craigen has been instrumental in the development of countless students who have gone and are going into urban ministry. From the past ten months of full time urban ministry, it has been vital to see things from different perspectives and to have had many of my views challenged. Craigen helps introduce students to those views and perspectives while simultaneously being faithful to scripture and the Church.

Clive Craigen's presence at Moody is crucial for Moody to maintain a legacy of impacting the city and the world for the name of Jesus, through a gospel mission of love and justice.

Clive Craigen helpsbto inform students of their ethnic identity and class and it’s effect on society as a whole. He shares his own personal journey for him as a white man and issues he was unaware of until God placed him in an urban area where he could see the everyday struggle for minorities. I personally have been comforted by him and felt safer at Moody because of his support. White students would hear Craigen out because he could identify with them where sometimes the things I would communicate would be overlooked. He is a phenomenal professor and offers practical information on how to relate to people from a different background than oneself whether that means economically, ethnically, or culturally. Very thankful for his influence on my life. I most likely wouldn’t be married to my husband who is white if it wasn’t for his impact on his life.

Craigen is a man & teacher who brings a unique perspective to the table. I learned so much in his class about myself the world & God. He helped me under the ignorance in my own heart & perspective. He brings truth & challenges in love. I really hope that Moody decides to keep him around so other students can experience what I have through him.

During the 9 years I have been apart of the Moody family, Clive has been one of the three most spiritually formative voices in my Christian walk. He has been kind, gracious, encouraging, inclusive. Clive models being a light in places most people aren't willing to go. A Moody without Clive will be a Moody with less gospel urgency.

This is sad to hear that Moody has not changed since I left. It seems as though they keep cutting people out of the institution, who are the very ones that gave me some hope for the school’s existence. Professor Craigen is absolutely vital to bring in the importance of diversity in a school that has been historically bent toward the majority.
