Clive Craigen taught us empathy and made strides for progress at Moody. The reason his name comes up in these conversations and puts him on a list like this is because he was a force for change. Moody’s lack of support for him is obvious, and it is truly saddening. In my classes with him and seeing him organize Missions Conference(s), I see humility, kindness, and Christ-like compassion.

Mr. Craigen is one of the most valuable assets this institution has, and his presence and years of hard work have proven his love and dedication to the Lord, ministry, his students, and the city of Chicago. Mr. Craigen is absolutely vital to the life of MBI, and his removal would be a blow to alumni, current students, and the city of Chicago. Furthermore, he is among the most compassionate among the faculty at MBI. My experience with Mr. Craigen as a professor was life changing. His passion for others, particularly the marginalized and oppressed, is a reflection of Christ’s love for all. Removal of Mr. Craigen would be a deafening announcement of MBI’s attempt to erase diversity and perpetuate a standard of homogeneous and white centric attitudes and actions.

As a Moody Alumni, I took Professor Craigen's class and was always in awe of his awareness and empathy for the black community and as well the students of color. For Moody to even consider doing this show that they are truly not going in the right direction of inclusion and acceptance of the issues not only in our city or community, also our world! This would be a great loss to the school, body of Christ and the community of all cultures.

I graduated from MBI's Urban Ministry dept where I was a participant in the Urban Cohort program. I went on to work with Clive professionally at Moody helping host Missions Conference. Seeing firsthand the incredible work he has done over the years, be assured the fallout of this loss would be devastating to Moody and counteractive to strides made toward diversity and inclusion.

The loss of Clive Craigen is a loss the MBI can't afford. As a minority alum, I have to say that he's to vital in the emotional care and perseverance of the minority student body and beyond to let him go. He's always been a voice for the voiceless. The Trustees need to find another solution.

He has taught 2 of my daughters and his teaching and authentic testimony have impacted our girls so vitally such that they are unashamed to display the gospel in the communities where they live and work, following in his footsteps.

It disturbs me that Moody Bible will not keep staff that are progressive. I know that the Word of God is timeless, but the world has changed! If young people are going to stay in ministry we’ve got to relate to them. I am grieved over this decision.

I'm an alumni of Moody with boots on the ground actively and prayerfully leading in ministries that make disciples in Chicago. Over the last 8 years, I've not met another professor in the undergrad dept at Moody with more involvement, connections and relevancy to the residents and youth in our city (esp on the south and west sides). I also connect regularly with many of the urban min and cohort students (pre and post grad from Moody) who serve alongside me and have personally heard/ seen the impact of Clive's raw, real, Biblical, Christ-like, discipleship-oriented leadership and training influence on them. Many of those who have been directly impacted by Clive's holistic education remain in urban ministry (and in Chicago). I am personally concerned about the reasons for which he is being let go. I havent seen any issues which would cause my heart or mind to question why he shouldnt remain at Moody. Although Moody is not under any obligation to release those reasons, I pray that they would be able to communicate it clearly and with integrity in some way to Clive and his students.

Craigen boasts Christ and Him crucified. His views are unique, but powerful in showing the student body just how diverse surrender to Christ can look. Dismissing him in the grounds of his views on diversity does not teach unity, it teaches legalism.

Clive brings a unique combination of ministry experience, expertise, and passion to MBI that will be hard to replace. His impact on my life and ministry have been significant. I would respectfully ask the administration to reconsider this course of action (class of 2007).

I personally know & support this man & his family. Please reconsider this. I’m very discouraged to hear this news. As a Moody Alum I care deeply about the direction of this school & I know Clive cares so much for this institution- to see it live out what it preaches.

2014 alum. Clive taught me how to live out the gospel like few other professors did. I can firmly say I’m a better, more empathetic, and biblically-minded pastor because of Clive’s influence on me. Letting him go is a huge mistake.

Craigen’s urban cohort program was one of the most transformative experiences of my life. In large part, it was that experience that inspired me to pursue my graduate degree in social work, a field I’ve fallen in love with. I am so thankful for this professor. He brings so much to Moody.

You got a man who loves the Lord and loves the students in word and deed. Always been approachable; always been available. I still to this day call him, “Pops” because he’s not just a teaching professor, but a professor who actually makes disciples, especially in the harder to reach places of the city. An integral part to my positive Moody experience is my relationship with Professor Craigen. Letting him go would take that away from current and prospective students.
