I am starting this petition to show the school how many parents and carers value all-year swimming. I am a strong believer in the benefits of having weekly sessions not only for health reasons, but for confidence and most importantly learning life-saving skills.

Drowning is still one of the most common causes of accidental death in children, so being able to swim is essential, particularly so due to the surrounding area.

I am proposing that the school considers other avenues that could provide revenue for the swimming pool, allowing our children to have the regular lessons that are vital for their development.

£2 a week is an extremely reasonable amount to pay to potentially save your child's life. This is a fraction of the cost for lessons elsewhere.

Please show your support by signing this petition before 16th March 2017.

Thank you very much for your time.

I have been hearing from so many of you who worry about your children losing these vital safety skills if the pool closes. I am currently gathering information on alternative funding models to present to the school administration so we can keep the program running.

Seeing this kind of momentum confirms that I am not alone in fearing for our children's safety without these lessons. Knowing so many of you value these life-saving skills as much as I do gives me real hope for the talks ahead.

Not only as a father of two BCPS puples but as part of the RNLI i would encourage Mrs Stock to keep the pool open and encourage all parents to allow their children to swim all year round, its an essential skill that may save their lives some day.

I'd like to know if we could buy the chemicals required for the pool cheaper. Can we see a proper breakdown of all costs? Swimming is life skill ALL our kids need!

Being able to swim is essential for all children especially living in Burnham. Surely the pool could make money if it was more available to be used out of school hours throughout the year to the local community to help with running costs. All Parents should support and encourage swimming as a lesson all year round and £2.00 is a small amount to pay weekly to be able for our children to swim.

There are many ways in which extra revenue could be generated to help towards the maintenance and running of the pool. I'm sure the facilities could be made available to other parties or fundraising schemes developed.

Was shocked that only 50% of parents contribute to cost of swimming lessons! Couldn't there be an "opt out" for parents who do not want their children to swim during winter months? There must be some way to save swimming lessons all year round? So important for children's learning & development!

My son attends Burnham School and loves his swimming lessons all year round. I think the small amount they request from parents to fund this important education in swimming is worth every penny to know I am keeping my son safe around water.
