Alot of us noticed last term ended with the cancellation of AFTER SCHOOL SWIMMING in VISS which was due to an accident occurring in a DIFFERENT school. As a result, we (the parent) are raising this petition to bring AFTER SCHOOL Swimming classes back. We understand that what had happened in the other school was horrific, terrible and heartbreaking but We feel it should not effect after school activities in VISS. Specially since it is an after school activity elected by parents with the parents being present during the activity.

Leaving children without swimming classes till a higher grade is not a solution, as it could be as dangerous. Learning at a young age is easier and better, as a child is still at an age where they can develop and enhance their skills further. If safety majors must be done then the school should do them, the answer shouldn't be in canceling the classes.

Swimming lessons in other sports clubs have not stopped and we see no reason why the AFTER SCHOOL classes should be treated any differently. Our kids feel safe and happy with their VISS coaches and should be able to get the best training in their school as an activity. The VISS coaches are very caring and are great in dealing with children starting from pre-kg. The kids are learning how to swim and thriving thanks to a great effort from these coaches.

There are many parents and kids who have invested a lot in these swimming classes, it would be unfair to see all their hard word and skills fade with such along break till they start learning again.

In conclusion : AFTER SCHOOL swimming lessons should remain separate from the rules forced during academic hours. And should remain a choice for parents to make for their own children.

Let's remember learning how to swim is a GOOD thing!

Updates

January 10, 2019

I have been hearing from so many of you about how confusing the silence from the school is right now because it really feels like they are just waiting for us to stop paying attention. Honestly the stories parents are sharing in the comments make me even more determined to get our coaches back in the pool even if the office acts like they cannot hear us knocking.

The incident that took place if the other school was really sad, but if we don’t teach our kids swimming at an early age we will see similar incidents taking place. Both my kids take swimming lessons after school hours and parents are always present during the lessons.

One unfortunate accident shouldn't deprive other kids right to swim... and actually it the more reason why swimming lessons are very important.

It should be resumed otherwise my 6 year olds will forget the skill they have been learning for the past two years now.
