AfterEllen is not just any other website, not just any other blog. To us, LGBTQ women, it's a home. It's a haven. And the owners' decision to close it this Friday, simply for monetary reasons, is effectively making us homeless orphans.
Mainstream media still barely represent queer women, and doesn't speak to or with us. An outlet like AfterEllen to tell our stories, to speak up on our behalf, to represent us, when we still are too little heard or seen is not just important, it's vital.
It is vital to every queer woman, whether confident in her sexuality or struggling with self-discovery and self-acceptance, young or old, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, of every race or religion, to know that they belong to a community, that they are not invisible. This is what AfterEllen gave us, women-loving women from all over the world these past ten year: not only content that spoke to us, but also a sense of community, and pride.
Queer voices matter and shouldn't be silenced. AfterEllen has been our champion for years, we cannot let it die.
Because yes: refusing to sell it to potential buyers to continue profiting from it whilst having no intention of providing new content or keeping its contributors is letting it agonize, and an affront to the readers. If Evolve Media really means to "publish the content people are passionate about," then it should, without question, keep AfterEllen as it is. We are certainly passionate about it.
Queer women deserve better; we deserve AfterEllen. Keep it alive.

words can not explain how much of an impact AfterEllen has had on my life. If not for them, I would not have learned to accept and love myself for who I am, despite what the majority of the world says. AfterEllen is a resource our community CAN NOT afford to lose.
