Making a 5 year old to wake up at 6:30 to get to school at 7:30 so that other 16 year olds can get more sleep is just a bad idea. Can’t understand BOE is falling for this.

As a parent with kids in all schools, please consider not changing school start times. They work for all five of my kids and our whole family. Listen to your community!

What’s terrible abou this is that little elementary school kids wil have to start school at 7:35 that means that those little kids will have to get up at 6:30 AM so just to give us more sleep a bunch of little kids will get less sleep. Terrible

The schools in our county that changed to earlier, are not doing better academically or in sports. Later start times will also end afterschool jobs, extra curricular activities, and some sports. These activities help teens social in a positive way, good for mental health. and doctors recomend that kids 6-12 get the most sleep. The SSL Start School Later is a lobbist group. They have money and a board of directors, and publicist to push their agenda. The SSL encourages to sue the BOE if they don't change.

I have two preschoolers- so right now this doesn’t affect me. However we all were fine waking up early to get to school, doing lots of homework, studying, and balancing sports and side jobs. I tend to agree that if kids know they get to wake up later they will stay up later- I know I probably would!

The change will only result in pushing the day later for the high schoolers so they will get to sleep later. This approval is creating tremendous anxiety.

Unless amount of homework is concurrently changed this policy will have no more effect on number of hours slept than daylight savings time does! You are disrupting everyone’s lives and giving nothing in return!

I do see why they wanted to change them for better sleep, but people have homework and after school activities that could end up making them have the same amount of sleep as before. Also, I want to be able to be out of school before the middle school, so I can pick up my sister. Also this could encourage kids to do their homework right before school instead of at night.

I demand a healthy start time to every age groups. Until then, let HS kids get out of school early to work, play sports/music and volunteer.

The change of the start times will only push back sports practices and games to be later. Plus, the amount of homework students are given is a huge factor on why changing the times is a huge debate.

I think they shouldn’t change... for me, I’m a early bird I get up early and I like it, I also manage my time with all the hw I get every night. But it is safe to say it’s not tv or my phone keeping me up at night it’s homework. That’s whats keeping us up at 12-1 am. If anything needs to change it’s the amount of hw we get a night. I also work at the boys and girls club and this time change would really just screw them over...

To change the times does more harm than good. People on their high horse always want to make changes to things that work. Ridiculous. Shame on the board for not listening to the majority. What’s the point in asking if you are just going to do what you want. Time for a new board.

In the real world people don't get up at 8 every morning but are still able to function and do their job well so why can't we?
