Our community cannot ignore the negative impact a time change will have on our elementary school aged children and the issues it creates with family time.

Seems to be another example of a few people trying to push the majority around by shouting them down and not letting them being heard. One medical professional that fits the narrative the proponents want. No debate with counter arguments?
Oh, and enough with wasting money we don't really have!

I don't understand why we are considering spending almost $1 million and messing with parent's work schedules, kid's work schedules, and after school programs just because parents can't put their kids to bed earlier.

Lets make the dialogue about excessive tests exams and homework . Lets talk about college admissions and pressure. Lets help our kids this why, not by reinventing the wheel.

My son goes to a later-start school right now (8:30am start). He does not get more sleep and I question whether the quality of his sleep is better. Additionally, we are limited in family time -- getting home at 5 or 6pm after activities (not sports) means no downtime for him if he wants to go to bed at anywhere near a reasonable hour. To see a doctor/dentist/orthodontist, I have to pull him from class because he gets home after office hours. He can't have an after school job or volunteer commitment because he gets home too late. I love the idea of late school start and well-rested teens. But I can tell you from personal experience that the logistics don't pan out. There are local people living this reality right now. Why not ask them about what their daily lives and those of their teens look like?

Two other issues in combination have a bigger impact than start times: homework volume and social media. Teachers need to reform the volume of homework they give students. Parents need to work with their children to limit access to social media during the time they are working on homework to avoid the distractions.

this effects the entire town, all students, businesses, extracurriculars. Science study's have been proven wrong in the past.

Unless the town pay a lot for school busses, some school children get bad and inconvenient school start time. Even HS students don't want it.

Too many variables. WE to BE
Many HSers need work to afford college, many need extracurricular or tutoring for their journeys. Late dismissal could kill all that

I do not support a change in HS time by ruining school for an ES student. Waking an ES student at 6:15 to catch a 7 am bus is not healthy. I would have a miserable second grader at that time of morning An ES student getting home closer to 4:30/5 is not optimal and doesn't give them time for play. They would need to be in bed at 7 to get their needed sleep. Not much time for sports or family time. Fix the HS time correctly......without destroying school for another age group!

Having the elementary start at an earlier time is not an option therefor I don't think the time should be changed.

The elementary kids can't handle the earlier start times proposed.

Kids can adjust to any sleep schedule. They don't go to bed because they are on their phones. Just as many studies against this as there are for.

If the high school time changes and the elementary kids start earlier, who will watch the kids at Rec Center and the Boys and Girls Club?
Plus, if the high school starts later, their after school activities will start and end later, homework will be finished later, and sleep later than they used to. Seriously, no point to change.

Changing the start time will not address the problem of too much homework! Especially for those kids who play sports, have an activity or have a job! They will stay up later and the problem stays the same! Parents who don't have kids in high school don't understand!
Please keep school times the same! No changes!!
