As you may have heard, new changes are coming for 7/8 y/o hockey. These changes include going away from the traditional full ice game with proper rules and team building. Kids at this age want to play the game like it's suppose to be played and these changes will delay so many things with certain skills, skating, overall game rules and total hockey development. This overall could hold back so many kids, with many likely quitting before they experience a real full ice hockey game and a full team competition experience. Let your voice be heard. My son so enjoyed his season this year, he says he doesn't want to play if it's half ice next year, that makes me sad. Not because I care if he plays hockey, sad because I know how much he loves to play.
I find its the kids that like the full ice and are usually disappointed at the little games.Also, with 4 teams sharing the ice instead of 2 will they be reducing fees? Increasing # of games or just renting out the extra ice and pocketing the cash?
At 7/8 years old children playing hockey have short timed shifts usually and playing on a full rink is crucial to their skills development. Train the coaches don't take the ice from the kids
This will be detrimental to children's development. Skating and common knowledge of the sport will suffer greatly. With these proposed changes my kid will not be playing in any hockey manitoba leagues till atom if even at all. It's a shame this is gonna kill children's futures in the sport.
How do we teach them the proper ways of hockey if they can't use the whole ice. Just like checking kids going into Bantem and are getting hurt because they don't know how to do it right or check right
More to my comment on this: This is wrong, the kids need to learn the skills of a big ice and proper rules to develop into good and great players. If they want kids to touch the puck more than those kids need to learn to play harder and work harder. This is just another way of parents and association thinking we are hurting kids feelings. This is a sport and like in life you only get out of it what you put into it and handing kids things like this in a silver platter is not he right choice. What's next no nets so one team can't beat another team???
Manitoba hockey needs to think about this a little longer. This is 110% the wrong decision.

If they move forward with these changes. perhaps in the future they will decide advancement into the playoffs and sport by a coin toss like they did in Calgary. Coin toss could be a National Sport ,,,Couldn't it? And why did they do it. because it interfered with scheduling. Do not change the game.
