The Katy ISD Board finally stopped playing games and agreed to keep the POWER program fully funded. We forced them to admit that cutting this essential safety curriculum was a massive mistake. Keep your eyes open because we will be watching to make sure they stick to this promise.

Dear Katy ISD School Board,

One of the many great things about Katy ISD is our POWER program (formerly called DARE). This program educates 5th grade students in Katy ISD, teaching children how to resist drugs and alcohol, and learn skills for internet safety, bullying, and gang resistance. POWER also helps familiarize all elementary students with drug and alcohol awareness and a trust of law enforcement. The POWER Program also sponsors the Parent & Student Academies at the Junior High level, the Role Model Program at the High School level, the POWER Lock Ins, Bowling Nights and Summer Camps for the children at the elementary level. We, the below signed, support the FULL DISTRICT SUPPORT of the POWER program in Katy ISD. ***Please sign only if you are a resident of the Katy Independent School District***

Updates

The Katy ISD Board thinks they can quietly dismantle the POWER program while nobody is watching. I have been demanding answers from their office all week and they have nothing to offer but empty excuses. We are keeping the pressure on because our kids deserve better than this calculated negligence.

My daughter really looked forward to the lock ins. It is one of the best things Katy ISD offers.

Seems like a mistake to get rid of something that actually connects kids with law enforcement in a positive way.

Keep it funded. Bullying is a real problem and these talks help.
