To Whom It May Concern:
We believe that the city of Killeen needs to stop the unethical killing of animals at the City Shelter. We know that there are other ways to take care of animals in the city shelter without having to put them down. Just because their isn't room, doesn't mean they need to put animals to sleep to make more room. THAT IS WRONG. We need to come up with better ideas and methods to protect these animals and keep them safe until they are adopted. A few ideas that could be thrown out there is making community service a graduation requirement for high school students. This can be done, as it was done at the high school I attended. Myself and the undersigned also believes that we can come up with ways to help the shelter grow and expand, through educational awareness, and community support. There are organizations that help the community such as Habitat for Humanity, and even the Home Depot. The members of the board of the City of Killeen should find other ways to disperse our tax dollars into the shelter to help them build a bigger facility. We need to come up with a plan to make people pay to turn in an animal using a surrender fee, so that the animal can be provided with adequate care. We should also come up with a way to make people receive a license to breed their animals, and make it mandatory for people to register their pets, as well as micro-chipping them. We should come up with a fund for people who cannot afford to spay and neuter, or a low-cost facility that can be used to help those in poverty. It can happen, and there are many ways to make this shelter NO-KILL. It is not the fault of the animals in the facility, but it is our fault as human beings for not doing what is right. THE TIME IS NOW... FIGHT FOR THE RESCUING OF ANIMALS ON DEATH ROW... THEY NEED OUR VOICE... NO-KILL!

I was looking at the screen and just realized how much energy this has picked up lately and my brain is kind of racing thinking about all the emails I need to send out now. It honestly feels surreal that people are actually listening to this idea about shelter reform because I remember sitting at my desk feeling like I was just shouting into the void. This whole thing makes me feel like we might actually get someone to listen to us about the animals soon.

This is absolutely heartbreaking. There are so many rescues that would take these babies if given the chance. Stop the killing now!

Ridiculous that this is still happening in 2016. Start charging surrender fees and hold people accountable for their pets!

Killeen needs to do better. My tax dollars should be going to help these animals not kill them. Fix the facility.
