Dear frıends I am writıng to you from North Cyprus to notify you of the potentially dangerous action the goverment of TRNC is pursuing regarding the national park area of Karpaz Peninsula. This ıs an area of outstanding natural beauty and biodiversıty and it is one of the few remaınıng nestıng habıtats of the loggerhead turtle in the medditeranean, the TRNC government ıs plannıng and has already lıfted development bans so that a number of hotels and prıvate resıdences can be buılt. It has already gıven plannıng permıssıon to (GAU Gırne Amerıcan Unıversıty) large areas of land ,n order to buıld a campus (ıllegal accordıng to EU law) The TRNC government ıs pursuıng thıs actıon due to polıtıcal aıms so that Karpaz remaıns wıthın the TRNC ıf any future Cyprus settlement ıs made. If we allow thıs to happen then where wıll ıt end we are rapıdly destroyıng the island due to selfish and narrow political aims, more long term Ecologically sustainable initıatives need to be considered in cooperation with the local residents and cypriot society. The loggerhead turtles of that region are already under threat, hotels and university campuses will only drive the turtles into extinction and destroy what is an unspoilt asset to the whole world. Please sign the petition so that it can be sent to the Enviroment and Tourism Minister.
I have officially filed a formal request for a meeting with the Environment and Tourism Minister to discuss the development plans on the Karpaz Peninsula. My priority is establishing a record of these objections before any further permits are finalized for university or hotel construction.

The current level of engagement has secured a meeting with officials at the Ministry of Environment. I am finalizing the formal proposal to present our arguments against the development plans on the peninsula.

The turtles have nowhere else to go. Stop the building before it is too late for the peninsula.
