Please show your support for the re-opening of Knockbreck Nursery by signing this petition. The nursery is an important part of our community. A part which we cannot afford to lose. Choice is paramount in decisions concerning a childs education, welfare and development. The Department of Education's decision to moth-ball the nursery greatly reduces that choice and could ultimately lead to its closure. Parents on Waternish will now have to travel to Dunvegan or further to provide nursery provision for their children. This will be both costly and time consuming. Moth-balling the nursery could also affect the decision taken by families with young children as to whether they move into the area. Children are the future of smaller communities like Waternish and closure could have devastating effects in years to come. It should also be remembered that the nursery has in the past provided local employment and we need to try and ensure it continues to do so in the future. To reverse the moth-balling of the nursery could be a long, drawn out process so it is a matter of urgency that we rally together as a community before it is too late. Knockbreck Nursery is fully equipped and if given the go ahead, could open almost straight away. All that is needed is a Nursery Assistant and there are fully qualified candidates within the local area. It seems such a waste of resources to have an amenity such as this standing idle. Thankyou for taking the time to read this plea. If you agree as others do,that this is a cause worth fighting, please register your support by putting your name to this petition.

We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge the Education Department to act now to re-open Knockbreck Nursery.
