Sparkles was killed by an irresponsible owners untrained dog. We want FIU to publicly make a statement on this and bring justice. We want FIU to start taking their own pet rules seriously, aswell as the students at FIU. There has been a clear lack of enforcement on pet policies, and due to this there have been multuple attacks on cats within the last few weeks at FIU by these dogs, and this time it was so serious that they killed a cat. This will happen again if changes arent made. We want people to be held accountable. People have been illegally obtaining fake ESA (Emotional Support Animal) papers online without the school doing background checks on them, allowing students to house dogs on campus that are untrained, they cannot control, and often are kept in bad conditions here.
We would like to clarify that we have never sent anyone to attack those involved in this situation, all we are asking for is for FIU to strengthen their background checks on the animals they let on campus, aswell as make the policies surrounding them stricter/more enforceable. The punishments for breaking these rules need to be harsher and we must see change in order to prevent this from happening again. FIU cannot just avoid talking about this and censor anyone who does not agree with them, we want justice.

This is not the first time animal abuse has been spotted on campus. Sparkles deserved better. Stop getting your ESA licenses off fake sites on and start getting them trained; nonsense like this should not be happening.
As an animal lover and someone with an official and necessary ESA, this is beyond horrific. This poor baby and all other members of the cat colony on campus deserve so much more.
I've seen several times people walk their dogs unleashed in the area that Sparkles hung out. Each of those times, the dogs would chase the cats in an aggressive manner. I've been seeing typa thing happen for over 3 years now... this could have been avoided :(
It’s important that something like this doesn’t happen again, and we make sure that the dogs on campus are properly trained, if not one of these untrained dogs could do this to a human and not just a cat.
the trips taken to visit these cats has helped create some of my best memories here, I am absolutely devastated to hear this news; sparkles was one of the sweetest cats I’ve ever met, and their absence due to irresponsible and reckless actions will surely leave a hole in this community.
I cared for the cats during my time at FIU. Thank you so much to all of the student activists who came after me and did much more than I did. RIP to all of the campus cats whose lives were taken too soon by cruel humans. We need to protect these cats.

There is no reason leash laws shouldn't be enforced in the same way they are anywhere else. With the amount of emphasis the university puts on fostering a safe environment and attracting students to their housing, it is unacceptable for their not to be more due diligence in accepting pets onto campus.
