Sash’s school is threatening to make him repeat 7th grade because he failed his maths tests. Sash was diagnosed one year ago with a maths learning disorder and the only special help the school has provided is one 45 minute extra maths class per week. According to Professor Butterworth, the leading authority in Europe on maths learning disorders, repeating maths lessons that have failed with children like Sash is ineffective and often counter productive. Sash has passed all his other classes, with some improvement on the previous year. Forcing him to repeat 7th grade will be a disaster for his self esteem and serve no useful purpose.
Let Sash move on to 8th grade!
Sashu šola grozi, da bo moral ponavljati sedmi razred, ker mu ni uspelo narediti matematike. Sashu je bila pred enim letom postavljena diagnoza učne motnje pri matematiki. Edina pomoč, ki je bil deležen s strani šole je dodatnih 45 minut matematike na teden. Po mnenju profesorja Butterwortha, ki deluje v vodilni instituciji v Evropi na področju učnih težav pri matematiki, je ponavljanje pri otrocih kot je Sash neučinkovito in velikokrat neproduktivno. Sash je opravil vse svoje druge predmete, z vidnimi napredki pri določenih predmetih. Ponavljanje 7. razreda mu ne bi koristilo, za njegovo samopodobo pa bi pomenilo pravo katastrofo

The school administrators remain silent while our numbers swell and the momentum behind Sash grows. They chose to ignore his learning disorder but they cannot ignore the hundreds of people demanding they stop this cruel policy immediately.

Sashu bi bilo potrebno zagotoviti več pomoči in v obliki ter na način, ki ga zagovarja stroka. Ne sme in ne more biti v diskreciji izobraževalne ustanove, kakšne ukrepe in kakšne možnosti bodo na voljo Sashu.
There will be more harm done than good if you retain Sash. No leading authority in education would support retention. Studies have proved that it is counter productive on a intellectual, emotional and spiritual level.

This is not a sensible solution to the problem. To remove a child from his friends and classmates does not seem to be a good way to make him improve his maths. There must be a way to give him some extra tuition and let him stay with his peers.
