Voice your support for the trees growing around the South St. monument in Jamaica Plain. This area is being redesigned and they plan to remove these trees so that an "unobstructed view" of the monument can be experienced from all angles. They want to attract people; however, in this scenario, a monument stands alone on a stark plain. They say they will be adding new trees off to the side where the street in front of the church now exists, but trees are living, growing things not pieces of furniture, and the more in this new park space the better for shade, the environment, beauty, recreation and remembrance. (You can read about the full design plan at link provided.)
If you agree, please sign this petition I am presenting to the architects at the next and last planning meeting. NOTE IN THE COMMENTS SECTION IF YOU LIVE/WORK/VISIT JP (and feel free to say other things!)
I really never expected so many people to care about these trees, and it is honestly overwhelming to see how much this neighborhood loves our green space. I am preparing the comments you all left to show the architects that these trees are not just furniture to be moved around.

Keep the trees!! JP would lose so much character without them. Nobody wants to sit in the sun on a hot pavement anyway.

Why move them? Just plant the new ones and keep the old ones too. It isnt that hard.

I grew up near the monument and it wouldnt feel like home without the shade. This is so shortsighted.

Ridiculous plan. Who cares about an unobstructed view of a monument if the whole area is just a concrete oven now. Leave them alone.
