The John Dewey Alumni Association is gravely concerned about the current status of John Dewey High School. We do not want to see Dewey closed and re-structured, as has happened with so many of the other large schools in the city. It is our belief that the educational experience that characterized Dewey in its early years has never before been more relevant. The expansive nature of John Dewey’s educational philosophies allows students to explore their potential to its fullest extent. John Dewey High School has complied with the Transformation model and has improved. Turnaround will close the school, fire the staff, rehire 50% of the staff and rename the school.
The bureaucrats at the DOE are counting on us to get tired and give up. We need to hit that hundred mark right now to prove they cannot just scrap our school and fire our teachers without a fight.

Total incompetence by the DOE. They love shutting down schools that actually work just to pretend they are doing something.

The teachers there really care about the kids. Firing half the staff is just gonna hurt the students who need that consistency.
