In a part of town especially known for honoring their own, how better to honor someone who honored so many folks' contributions.

Joe (not Mr. Franklin to anybody who ever met him) was welcoming, unfailingly cordial and represented the best of the NYC theatrical community. His longevity, warmth and respect for anyone in the show business deserves at the very least a street-naming.

In so many ways, Joe Franklin WAS New York City - and he spent much of his life, from 1951 until just a few months ago here in 2015, being a constant and beloved part of all the persons and places and things here in Manhattan...it's truly fitting that he have a street named after him. He loved the city as much as so many of us loved him...

This guy was strictly local! His vacations were to go to work and his office that offered up a therapy lounge for many wannabes and has beens, a showbiz icon in the heart of Times square that was really a genuine article. Deserving a sign because he actually made the Guinness book of World records as broadcasters longest run. Even at the end, riddled with cancer pain he would suit up to meet and greet folks in his office, for his work ethic alone we honor his memory but he was the nostalgia buff that remembered everyone (with out interrupting your thought process) and this element is critical for a healthy society. I quote him: "It's nice to be important but it's more important to be nice!"

The Times Square area has not been the same since that great consummate showman Joe Franklin shuffled off this mortal coil. So, I do hope that although we can no longer hear his wonderful voice coming over the airways; nor, see his face on the TV screen, we will, at least, view his name and the street of memories where he lived and worked and made famous, forever enshrined on the New York streetscape.

Joe represents Times Square- broadcaster, promoter of the performing arts, & restauranteur. It is a fitting tribute to him. RIP.
