Dear Union College Students,

I would like to show that in Union College lab courses, students are allowed to produce and submit the same graphs as their lab partners and that this is accepted by professors, unless explicitly told otherwise.

I plan to use this petition to defend myself in a case of academic dishonesty. My lab partner and I performed the same experiment, obtained the same data, and created the graphs together. However, one of the major accusations against me is that the same graphs were used, which I have done in all other lab science courses and was never penalized for.

If you agree with this idea please sign this petition to help me defend myself and find justice. Also, please invite other Union College students to do the same. Thank you.

By signing your name below you are agreeing to the following statement:

"My understanding is that lab partners who perform the same experiment and collect the same data together are allowed to hand in the same graph, as long as the interpretation of the graph and the written portion of the lab are done individually."

The response to this petition has been significant and confirms that many students share my experience regarding standard laboratory reporting practices. This collective perspective will serve as a vital component of my upcoming defense. I appreciate the willingness of my peers to confirm these common academic expectations.

Seriously? The data is literally identical because we got it at the same time. How else are you supposed to graph it?

Common sense. If we do the lab together we have the same numbers.

Never had a problem with this in any of my bio labs. Professors should be clear on the syllabus if they want separate work!

I did this all freshman year and never heard a word about it being dishonest. This needs to be resolved.

This is ridiculous. Everyone in the science department does this. Why even call us partners if we cant share the data we collected together?

So unfair. This is basically standard practice for every single lab course Ive taken here.
