James Island Apartment Moratorium: Let's Save Our Island!

The new apartment construction on Stefan Drive has kept my newborn and I up, making our sleep deprivation even worse.

As a James island resident I would like to support the 2 year hold on any more permits for high density housing such as apartments and condominiums. I live on woodland shores road and have noticed the level of traffic increase as more people use it as scut through. I personally would like to see some traffic slowing works done as someone is going to be killed sooner rather than later. With the amount of extra cars in higher density with the building of apartments the infrastructure that we have now is barely able to cope let alone in the next few years with the amount of people choosing to move here. I would like to see that every developer provide money to the city,to help with the costs of the infrastructure improvements that there buildings are adding to the problems that we are seeing.

Traffic is terrible, we are considering moving.

If you DO think we need more apartments, then you do NOT truly believe in supporting the integrity and beauty of James Island. Any true James Islander (lifetime resident or newcomer) does NOT want any more high density, multi-family dwellings.

PLEASE help us save James Island!!!!! it is almost too late!!!!!

It is not clear to me that even the minimal six month moratorium that is being proposed will address the large apartment complexes that are springing up all over James island. The ordinance specifies only "non-residential zoning districts that exceed 4 units or 1500 sq. ft." I believe the wording needs to include a moratorium on any residential or multi-family construction of 4 or more units in ANY zoning district, including a PUD.

Please keep our green space, save our grand oaks, and stop building when there is plenty of housing already available with older houses for sale. We bought one.

I have lived on James Island since 2005. Recently there has been too much growth on the island, in particular from apartment complexes and condos. Of enough thought was given to how this growth would impact residents and the infrastructure has not been improved to support the growth. Please support the two year moratorium on apartment complexes to help preserve the island we love.

This development has got to stop. Our way of life is at stake here.

I can not get off the Island at noon let alone rush hour. The Island mystic is being ruin by developement. James Island has a charm that attracted us to live here in the established neighborhoods. I am being held a prisoner in my home. I can't leave the island the traffic is so backed up by the draw bridge and added traffic. Sometimes it takes me 30 minutes to go 5 miles.

I have lived on james island for 6 decades and see the problem of the ground being over saturated because of too much concrete. Then ditches stay flooded and bacteria and insects grow. Such issues are health problems.

We need to put a stop to large scale development so that we can assess how our community's infrastructure is being impacted, and we need time to do this. A six-month window is insufficient.

save our Island stop the building of new apartments and start rehabbing the old ones, tear them down if needed. We have plenty of apartments they just need some love and attention. These new apartments are not only tacky, they are packing them in to small spaces, and charging obscene amounts of money to rent.

Please stop the development. The rich character and beautiful green space is soon to be lost. Let's stand out from all of the other islands that have sold out to developers. Let's preserve what's left before it is too late!
