The current Illinois Veteran Grant policy imposes a six month validation window for qualifying citizens of the state to reaffirm said citizenship upon discharge from military service. This imposition is counter productive to the intent of the state as it seeks to support returning service members. Encouraging rapid acclimation to civilian life and offering a restrictive social support system hampers service member endeavors to contribute to the social health of the state. It is the intention of this petition to encourage local and state officials to remove this encumbering and facilitate a more inclusive program that allows service members to adjust to the changes in their lives. Such a gesture would truly serve the greater service member

SERIOUSLY. The state needs to quit making it harder for vets to get what they earned. Fix this now.

6 months is way too short for anyone trying to shift gears after serving. Give these guys some breathing room to actually figure out their next steps.
