The current Illinois Veteran Grant policy imposes a six month validation window for qualifying citizens of the state to reaffirm said citizenship upon discharge from military service. This imposition is counter productive to the intent of the state as it seeks to support returning service members. Encouraging rapid acclimation to civilian life and offering a restrictive social support system hampers service member endeavors to contribute to the social health of the state. It is the intention of this petition to encourage local and state officials to remove this encumbering and facilitate a more inclusive program that allows service members to adjust to the changes in their lives. Such a gesture would truly serve the greater service member

A 20-year Air Force veteran, Michael has served his country with honor. Retiring in 2004, he sought to enhance his skills as a healthcare manager. Graduating Summa Cum Laude in his undergraduate studies, he went on to acquire his MBA with a concentration in Healthcare Management. His goal is to earn his PhD in social ethics.
