As a student of McMaster University, Welcome Week has impacted me in an incredible way as a first year. From Mac Connector and Shinerama Casino to Sing it and Tug-A-War, the events facilitated by rep teams aided in making me feel at home. Many of us students recruited for IRC Welcome Week Reps have been inspired and encouraged to take part in McMaster's 2016 Welcome Week. We were looking forward to creating an environment that incoming first years will remember for a lifetime, and to inspire the next generation of Welcome Week Reps. Each and every one of us brings a unique set of skills that make IRC an impactful student group. The connections made during Welcome Week are unforgettable, allowing us to carry these new friendships, both with first years and reps, throughout the year. We strive to use our positions to further build upon McMaster’s incredible programming, advocacy and leadership systems. We believe this year's IRC student group is beneficial to creating an amazing experience for Welcome Week 2016. Please re-consider recognizing IRC as a student group of McMaster University. Welcome Week at McMaster is about building a family, and we don't leave part of the family behind.

Discussions with administration are ongoing. We are still waiting for a formal response regarding the status of the IRC.

After hearing a bit into the situation, I do not think getting rid of IRC as a whole is the correct answer. From what I understand, IRC has a great deal of non-used funds and hasn't explained these to MSU? (I do not know if that is entirely correct). I think that it might have been better to withdraw majority of the funding that IRC has accumulated and put that into something useful or necessary for students such as grants/bursaries/study spaces/etc.
IRC had a significant impact on my first year experience. The reps in welcome week supported me and through that i learned about the amazing leadership opportunities that irc presents to students. So i became vp-advocacy of my residence. Irc is without doubt one of the most important student organizations on campus. The positions, residence VPs, reps and many more opportunities like so allow students to impact their university. Removing this organization is a terrible decision.
I believe that disallowing the IRC reps to operate for Welcome Week 2016 is against the University's obligation to promote learning, teaching, and self-discovery. Repping for the IRC paves the way for subsequent involvement in other repping groups, be it faculty, residence, Maroons, or SOCS. This is perfect for aspiring student leaders to gain experience and really learn the rigors of being a rep. This experience being invaluable as they go on to reach more students in other repping capacities if they decide to. As well, having the chance to meet new students, and provide the information they need in what can be an uncomfortable environment, is perfect for students that want to create a positive impact on new students. Additionally, the priceless memories and friendships I was able to make as an IRC rep are not available for other students that have just as much, if not more, potential than I do to create a positive impact on campus. Having the chance to impart wisdom on new students, and learn from them as well as my fellow reps, spurred me to join other extra-curricular activities at McMaster. Without being an IRC rep, the bulk of what made my 2nd year so fulfilling would be non-existent In closing, I understand that as a student not affiliated with the executive IRC team there are specific actions that took place that I do not have information about and so cannot defend in a bureaucratic sense, my reasons still exist to show that disallowing the IRC reps from Welcome Week 2016 will take many opportunities away from the people directly involved and committed to making McMaster a better place.
McMaster is and should be a place of inclusivity. By not allowing the WW Reps to participate we are not being inclusive. The goal of WW is to not just represent our school, but to help students and make them feel INCLUDED into our society. Lets help the first years one rep at a time.
Please, please, please bring back IRC! A lot of us tried hard to get to become a rep and to get to thIs level and it would be such a shame to see our efforts go to waste. At least let the ones who have become welcome week reps be a rep for 2016 (like a last hurrah!) I know a lot of IRC reps who wanted to be with IRC above other rep positions (me included). Show some McMaster love and LET US REPRESENT MCMASTER AS PART OF IRC!!
As a McMaster student, I was really looking forward to representing the IRC during Welcome Week and being a rep for the first time. Going into my fourth and final year, I knew this was my last chance to do so and I felt it was unfair how this leadership position was taken away from me and all the other reps, as well as any IRC executive. I believe that the IRC plays an integral role during Welcome Week and throughout the school year, positively impacting the lives of many students here at McMaster. These positions not only have an impact on the students, but also have a huge impact on our own development as student leaders. As an active executive on several IRC committees during my first year, I was inspired to be a part of this organization yet again. Please re-consider IRC as a recognized student group so that all students could benefit from the opportunities and resources that it provides!

This organisation has single handedly inspired me to be a part of the welcome week experience for incoming first years!
