Introduce CCTV and/or railings in the dangerous areas of York such as Lendall Bridge and around Ouse River

We all have kids & they all drink too much on a night out .... There but for the grace of God. Either fence off the river or close the pubs. It's a combination that doesn't work .

Please put camera up near dangerous spot near the river etc

As the brother of a victim of the river ouse, what will cameras achieve? So that a greater number of people can watch people drown instead of just those present?

For those citing privacy as a reason to not have cctv, you have a point only if you don't use credit/debit cards, don't have any loyalty cards, don't use Facebook/Twitter etc., don't have email, never use a search engine, don't use the internet, don't use any timekeeping system for work or don't have a bank. Other than that, you're right. Saving lives and helping grieving families is SO less important than you being filmed down the street!

Because, Dan Peters, cctv would at least have saved my family and myself weeks of torture, stopped all the awful, speculation and saved police having to follow up all the ridiculous leads and 'sightings' that wasted so much of their precious time. As for your judgmental and uninformed, self righteous comments, my daughter was a lovely girl who followed someone and ended up in a poorly lit, treacherous area next to an unbarricaded swollen, fast flowing river. Keep your small minded comments to yourself and consider other peoples ' feelings

I agree with you Charlotte, I think there is something sinister behind all this. Too many all in the same circumstances over a few years now, just seems too much of a coincidence. I hope I am wrong, but either way they need more cameras!!

cctv footage would have spared the agonising weeks of speculation for family and friends, and saved police money time and effort focussing on and ruling out. other leads of enquiries

I can't believe that all the young people who go out in york that have lost a life in the river Ouse , are not aware of the dangers about this river, I know some youngsters have gone into the water under their own accord but what about all the others , has anyone thought that some foul play may have happened ? Have they considered this theory as I don't and can't believe the young folks on a night out in york , would put themselves in danger like this no matter how much they may have had to drink. I believe something is not right as we have had so many youngsters perish in this river for them all to be mis-adventure ? Please keep all our youngsters safe and install cctv at the most vulnerable places next to the river , have people patrolling near the river if need be, start up a volunteer scheme to protect the youngsters having a night out round town. I for one would give my spare time up to help getting something like this started. But the council and the police surely must get involved in such a scheme ?

I am appalled by the naivety apparent in so many comments here. How can anyone really call to be deprived of yet another bit of privacy by being monitored wherever they go? As if CCTV coverage would have saved anyone from drowning! So why are there lifeguards at swimming pools and no cameras? Hmm? Because rescuing a drowning person is a matter of seconds - no CCTV system can help you there. Besides, the river banks in York (or almost anywhere else) are NOT unsafe - in particular not for adults (and that's who this discussion is all about)! Binge drinking IS unsafe - and whoever subscribes to such behaviour must accept the potential consequences.

Absolute travesty with the loss of two young lives!
