The mainpurpose of getting CCTV around York, focusing on the river areas,is to prevent any more of the horrible unanswered questions of missing people. For example the terrible case with Megan Roberts when she entered the river as well as many other tragic cases.
CCTV would save a lot of police time and could also protect people from being in vulnerable situations.
It will provide more evidential information for not only the police but also the families and friends of the victim involved.

It is dreadful that our young people have no protection from this danger in the centre of York . The city centre establishments who make their profits from serving alcohol to already intoxicated customers should contribute to the costs of riverside safety.
ive got a petition in leeds after my brother died in the river aire I kniw hiw mych pain the roverts family are going through ive signed I hope the coyncil does something but 3 years on im still waiting the coyncil woyld rather byuld new propertys then thing of anybodys life gd luck
Not just cameras. York needs a dedicated police force patrolling the river banks at all dark hours. They could use the millions of pounds raised from closing Lendal Bridge to fund hiring more police.
From being a student myself there is no way there is enough saftey precautions around the river where there is a strong possibility of people being influenced by alcohol. Especially around Kuda and Salvation area.
Completely agree that there should be gates at the bottom of the stairs so people can't get down and also more CCTV along the bridge and around the clubs near the river so people are a lot easier to track down
We all have kids & they all drink too much on a night out .... There but for the grace of God. Either fence off the river or close the pubs. It's a combination that doesn't work .
Please put camera up near dangerous spot near the river etc

cctv and barriers along the river, from clifton bridge to millenium bridge on both sides of the river are needed to prevent any further deaths, far too many over the years., and in my opinion not all are the result of being drunk, i believe there are very wicked people out there, unfortunately.
