We need your help to stop the rebuild of the house at 781 Oliva Street.
The Committee of Adjustments has approved what they are calling “minor variances” to this property. While this may be true on paper, the building they have approved is in fact, a 4000 square foot home on a street that the average house is 1100 square feet. That is almost 4 times the size!!
There are two story houses on this street, but none more than 2000 square feet.
We don’t want this house to set the new standard of this street and community.
We know that change is inevitable, and we know that some of these older homes do need upgrading, but let’s not change the design of our West Shore neighborhood and allow multi family dwellings.
Please show your support by signing this petition so we can bring this forward in our formal appeal with the LPAT (Local Planning Appeal Tribunal).

The volume of support for this petition has gained the attention of the local planning office. We are currently finalizing the formal brief for our appeal to the LPAT to ensure every concern regarding the project at 781 Oliva Street is addressed.

This home, as currently designed with the number of bedrooms and bathrooms, is NOT a single family home. It is more like a small apartment building, disguised as a single home. Although we are not against newer larger homes, they should blend in with the existing community and keep with the existing use (single family). With a single garage and driveway, the number of vehicles will likely result in on-street parking, impeding traffic, causing safety issues for neighbours, and blocking snow removal. Please only approve single-family home designs for this long-standing neighbourhood.
These very large home builds end up having 2 to 3 families that live in them (legally?!) and never enough parking. In an area where the streets aren't wide enough, or no sidewalks, this is a challenge.
I am the victim of the same proposal. We bought 3 years ago because we loved the sunlight and privacy in our backyard. Two years later we have a 5000sq ft monstrosity of a house blocking all sun after 930 am - no sun hits our deck. Their deck overlooks our backyard. Construction destroyed our foundation, patio and steps to backyard taking 15 months to repair. Stop this construction.
We should not allow this to happen. Large homes like these obstructed the view of neighboring homes and turn neighborhoods into concrete jungles. They destroy the greenery in the cities which contribute to its beauty.
Hard to believe how it can be described as a minor variance. We already have some examples of this in the neighborhood, and it would be nice if new builds were a little more in keeping with the existing look and feel.

Fairport Beach Neighbourhood Association has been pushing back on in-fill housing(monster homes) for the last 4 years. If you don't let your elected officials know how you feel, just wait till one is built beside you. Then its too late. President- FBNA
