This petition is in response to the segregation among the majority and minority vote for homecoming. In order to receive a special hearing with the school board of Arkadelphia we need to have at least 50 signatures. Its not ok for young girls to feel as if they aren't adequate enough and that administration has to segregate the vote. There isn't a policy in the handbook in regards to homecoming voting so we would like to give the vote to the people of Arkadelphia. If you agree that there should no longer be a separation among the court then please sign and share. Once we have enough signatures this will be submitted along with a written request for a special hearing at the school board. You as a community need to be there to voice your concerns.
*UPDATE.. I DON'T HAVE ANY FINAL PROPOSAL BUT I DO BELIEVE THERE IS A BETTER WAY TO DO THIS. ANY SUGGESTIONS OR COMMENTS YOU WANT HEARD PLEASE FEEL FREE TO POST THEM.

As an AHS alumni I definitely agree it is far past time to change this. I never understood why it was still this way when we graduated in 2001.
How we still have school set segregation of anything in public schools is a joke. When I was in school heard people say "well its not 'our' year, we can't win anyways." This teaches the students to subconsciously segragate without any realization what is happening.
I hated that it was segregated in high school. Administration response was that it's always been this way and it'll always be this way. This is terrible and not something to be teaching students.
My question is if you integrate the votes to the top 12 girls, what if they are all white? Or all minority? Would it not be better to allow clubs and organizations to "sponsor" candidates THEN allow the students to vote on those candidates chosen by the groups? Just a thought...
I was appalled when I found out the court was separated in such a manner. This act does not level the playing field but shows that race is a big issue in an environment that should only be for academic work. Yes, have a certain number of slots for the races if you feel it's necessary, but let the queen be the student bodies choice. If every year is once specific race, the children can safely say, we wanted her as queen.
It is a shame that I live in a town that still promotes segregation. It's 2016! Wake up!
This is disgraceful! That there even needs to be a petition for the in 2016 is absolutely shameful. Fix this now. Integrate the homecoming ballot. Then look for the next piece of systemic racism to undo.

I was voted in on. the homecoming court year 1987. Please tell me that this has changed? I can not imagine after years a school that I thought was GREAT. Would still allow something like this. If this is true, I'm highly disappointed this school districts system. Please make a difference and change for the better.
