Shelters in Peel are gender-specific which pose a risk for members within the LGBTQ community specifically for trans individuals that are gender queer or for those that aren`t or can`t fully transition. Shelters with policies to include trans individuals in shelters to make their services more accessible for all.

There is a lack of information and research on this topic in Peel. However an efficient amount of research has been conducted in Toronto to promote access to homeless shelters.
