This year the Dora committee are discussing the eligibility of improv based theatrical productions for the 2016 Dora Award nominee selection process. Although improvisation varies from performance to performance, we are starting to see more shows being produced in a theatrical format which are improv based shows. We believe that professional improvisation deserves the same notoriety as any other professional theatrical show. Sign the petition and have your voice heard in an appeal to the Dora committee as they make this decision.

Reaching this level of support has been a long and exhausting process but seeing your names pile up confirms that this fight is necessary. It is easy to feel ignored by the committee yet this momentum proves that the industry recognizes the value of our work.

Improv is art, and a difficult one to pull off as well! It should more than count!
Improv is an art form presented by trained improv practitioners. It's also current, entertaining, provocative, and relevant. It's Dora - worthy :).
Maybe read the eligibility first before petitioning. No one is disrespecting the form or excluding it. Not a single person. Do your research. http://tapa.ca/dora-awards/about/eligibility/ The artists part of your production must be professional artists as in paid artists. A majority of improv shows do not pay the performers. Look below to use a reference. INDEPENDENT THEATRE DIVISION A production that is produced by a non-venued company may register in the Independent Theatre Division subject to the following criteria: A production with a budget less than $100,000* in a venue with 150 seats or less must be registered in the Independent Theatre A production with either a budget greater than $100,000* or in a venue with 150 seats or more can choose to register in the General Theatre Division. *this includes all creation/production expenses and funds contributed by presenters, co-producers and in- association partners, and excludes all expenses associated with touring. To be eligible in this Division, a production must run a minimum of nine (9) performances excluding previews, and must be open to the general public in the City of Toronto.

In our struggle to highlight and promote the liveness of live theatre, we can no longer afford to dismiss the livest of live performance disciplines.
