Improvised entertainment, comedy and theatre is a growing form in the UK. With around 40 improvisation acts performing at the last two Edinburgh Fringe Festivals, and many more performing regularly throughout the country, it is time to separate them from the existing "musical and variety" category and recognise this art form as a stand alone discipline. With this in mind we, the undersigned, request that Chortle introduce "Best Improvisation Act" (to include solo performers and groups of 2 or more) as a separate category from the 2013 awards onwards so as to give sufficient time to research and review the nation's performing improvisation companies.
