We the undersigned respectfully request that Brown University assume a more proactive role in developing student awareness regarding acceptable, and expected, off campus conduct. Specifically, we believe that Brown should inform all students, each school year, starting with freshmen orientation, of the laws of the City of Providence and the State of Rhode Island, that address disturbing the peace, alcohol consumption and unruly behavior. Moreover, Brown should better coordinate with the community of Providence that surrounds the campus, regarding enforcement of such laws as well as the consequences of any violations incurred. This should benefit Brown University’s students, lessen the Providence Police Department’s burden and improve relations with the community at large.
