Hello Everyone,

Please join me in trying to improve our children's health and nutrition by changing the hot lunch program at OLPH. It is shocking to me that in this day and age of better awareness, we are still offering our kids, pizza, chicken nuggets, and corn dogs.

As some of you may know I am very passionate about this subject, and my only intention, is to educate and improve our children's lives.

I have done research, and have found a company called Choice Lunch that offers HEALTHY, FRESH, and reasonably priced items.

The first thing you need to know: I have no personal connection to this company. Just trying to change things.

FRESH CHOICE FOOD PHILOSOPHY:

What is your food philosophy?

We believe wholesome food and kid appeal are not opposing forces. We cook from scratch with real food, as much as possible. For instance we make our own salad dressings and hand roll our sushi. But we do purchase pizza from pizzerias close to schools along with raviolis and potstickers, leaving those things to the experts.

What are your ingredient standards?

We buy fresh ingredients with integrity. That means our chicken is antibiotic-free, and our beef is vegetarian fed. We don’t use HFCS, food dyes or preservatives and buy as much local food as possible. We are all fortunate to live in the great Golden state!

Do you have HFCS, artificial colors or preservatives in your food?

Nope, you won’t find any of that stuff in our ingredients, ever! Our nutritionist is hawk-eyed and always ensuring our standards are met.

Updates

April 14, 2016

I have been reading through your messages and the frustration about what is currently on our children's lunch trays is clearly shared by many. It is clear that we want better for our kids than processed nuggets and corn dogs on a daily basis. My next step is to prepare a formal proposal for the administration to show them that a healthier menu is both possible and necessary.

Seeing this kind of momentum confirms that I am not the only parent worried about what our children are eating every day. It feels incredible to know so many of you want better nutrition for your kids at school. We are finally gaining the traction needed to get the administration's attention.

I actually have previous experience with choice lunch. My kids had this at their previous school last year and did enjoy this. I do like our lunches now but I am all for a healthier lunches as it could only benefit the kids! Thank you, Naomi

It would be nice to allow my kids to actually order hot lunch and not worry about nut cross contamination. Currently kids with allergies are just out of luck.
