UTSU VP of University Affairs Cassandra Williams was active in destroying the free speech of members of the UofT community on October 11, 2016, by encouraging the use of a loud speaker to play white noise over speakers who attempted to open a discussion outside Sidney Smith Hall during the UofT Rally for Free Speech.
An UTSU executive member should not be trying to remove the right to free speech from the very members they are supposed to represent. We deserve better than this.
We are calling for the impeachment of Cassandra Williams. Please sign this petition, which will be presented at the UTSU AGM on October 27th, 2016.

We are crawling toward that first hundred names and I really need people to stop lurking and start tossing this link into their group chats because the AGM is looming over us like a dark cloud and I honestly cannot believe how quiet some people are staying about this.

I do not believe that the UTSU VP represents civility. Regardless of which side they were on, there were many people who wanted to engage in civil discussion. The VP attempted to make this impossible, ruining the intellectual climate of university.
As a U of T student I'm sickened by the actions taken by the UTSU and their stance on this political issue. They seem to expect tolerance while being completely intolerant themselves, pure insanity.
This individual has shown herself to be unfit to represent students. Her behaviour was childish, immature and fascistic. A university is meant to be a place where truth and knowledge are pursued through research, freedom of thought and speech. Cassandra clearly rejects these values and should be impeached.
If you as an executive member disagreed with the reason we had all gathered you had more than enough opportunities to take centre stage and voice your dissent rather than actively subvert the voices of those gathered. You decided to suppress these voices even those whom agreed with you.
I pay fees to have money go to aspiring scientists and engineers who will improve the world at UofT- not so that free speech can be oppressed in the most obnoxious way possible.
This person should not hold a position of influence in UOFT as the Vice President of the student union . Promoting violence and going against our Canadian charter of rights and freedoms by organizing violent anarchist/ communist movements within our communities. This person should be removed from their position immediately
Fascists should not be allowed to be in leadership positions. This is what's wrong with society right here. He needs to be impeached.

We need people who can bring students together, not create more seperation within the campus. What she had done during the free speech rally (putting white noise in the background when students were expressing their opinions) was petty and destroying the community within the campus which previous students had worked hard on building.
