We the undersigned find it disgraceful that a small clique within ULU, after being stopped from deciding the next London Student Editor, are now taking out their anger on the current London Student Editor, Jen Izaakson, by attempting to sack her through a vote of No Confidence.
London Student is a newspaper that is editorially independent from ULU Senate. The current Editor was elected by over 650 students in a race against four other excellent candidates. 10 sabbaticals overturning democracy and voting to sack the Editor is not something any student should take lightly. It is an attack on democracy and an attack on the students who actually create London Student every fortnight.
ULU is a Union that represents over 120,000 students – their votes should count over 10 people who wish to annul their democracy in a backroom of ULU.
One week ago is the first time that anyone on ULU Senate discussed sacking the Editor of London Student. This was just days after the Editor fought a legal campaign to stop Senate deciding the next London Student Editor. Jen Izaakson has continued to fight for the results of the London Student election to be released, with over 800 students signing the petition in support of this action.
Those elected figures that fear the candidate they supported in the London Student Election has lost are now fighting back by hoping to sack the current Editor and discredit the campaign for the results.
You don’t have to have voted for the Editor, be interested in ULU, or be a member of the student movement to find this situation appalling. This is a matter of principle.
The 50+ students from across ULU colleges who put London Student together each issue deserve to not have their paper destroyed for the next few months by a few select bureaucrats who have lost the battle to install their friend as the new Editor.

Seeing 250 people back Jen shows that students recognize this attempt to subvert democracy for what it really is. I started this because I refuse to let a handful of people silence the editor we actually chose. This support proves that our campus will not be intimidated by backroom office politics.

Seeing this level of support for Jen proves that students see right through these backroom power plays. This momentum shows that our democracy matters more than the bruised egos of a few people in power.

Watching the count climb reminds me why Jen was elected in the first place. Please tell three people about this attempt to silence our independent press so we can hit our goal today.

Sore losers plain and simple.
Leave Jen alone. ULU needs to focus on actual student issues instead of this power trip.
What a embarrassment to the union. Just let her do her job for gods sake.
Absolute joke. Can they not handle losing an election? Pathetic behavior.
Wow. Total cowards hiding in a backroom. Let the students decide who edits the paper.
