I love my midwife as do so many of my friends and colleagues. Most of us have had the same midwife for all of our children and we form a very close, warm and nurturing relationship with our midwives, and they with us. They are your advocate, your calming sense when needed, your teacher and your friend all throughout a time that you’re at your most vulnerable and in need of potency. This petition is to show support for midwives in New Zealand. We are so lucky to have a system in NZ where a woman can see the same midwife, she can choose to have her baby at home, in a birthing unit or at a main hospital (the latter if she is experiencing a complicated pregnancy or has some risk factors that are likely to require a hospital team to assist). With around 65,000 babies born each year in NZ and such a great maternity system where midwives work alongside women, we want to show our support for those midwives who do an amazing job, over and over again and may not know how much they mean to us.
