The government finally acknowledged the horrific abuse and issued the formal apology we demanded for these forgotten people. This victory belongs to every survivor who refused to stay silent while those institutions tried to bury the truth. Stay vigilant because we have to ensure these empty promises actually translate into …
We call for National and State Apologies for the inhumane treatment of tens of thousands of people, labeled as being mentally retarded and intellectually disabled, who where forced to endure lives of intolerable hardship and immense suffering in State and Federal Government funded Institutions. Tens of thousands of people were denied basic human rights and a duty of care. Many died alone, many suffered in silence and many were abandoned. We want our Governments to APOLOGISE, to say SORRY to the people affected by this incarceration and address immediately, and in earnest, today's further injustices that continue to deny people, and their carers, a right to participate equally, productively, fairly and with dignity in this our beloved country Australia.
The government thought they could bury these atrocities in the past but this surge of support proves they cannot outrun the truth. These bureaucrats have ignored our suffering for far too long and this momentum is the first step toward forcing them to look us in the eye.

My uncle spent years in one of those places. The stories he tried to tell us were just awful. It is time the government owned up to what they did.

Long overdue. The system failed these people completely and we need to face the truth now.

Give them the justice they deserve. Breaks my heart thinking about all those years lost in those institutions.
