The intent of this petition is to express interest in a potential new IAI Certification in Shooting Incident Reconstruction. In order to receive approval for a new certification, an appropriate interest level must be shown. By signing this petition, you are indicting your interest in a potential certification in Shooting Incident Reconstruction, should one be offered. This petition does not grant certification, does not guarantee that a certification program will be approved, or act as an application for certification.
The IAI formerly offered a certification in Crime Scene Reconstruction, however that certification program was cancelled and has not been reinstated. There is currently a certification for bloodstain pattern analysis, however there is no certification option (via the IAI or elsewhere) for Shooting Incident Reconstruction. The author of this petition believes that such a certification is necessary and will benefit the forensic community.
We, the undersigned, are interested in such a certification and would be interested in seeking certification in Shooting Incident Reconstruction should it be offered by the International Association for Identification.
As long as the requirements are appropriate. The BPA certification does not require you to have any BPA experience which I believe lessens the value of the certification. If all you need is to take a class and pass a test without any practical experience the certification holds less value (in my humble opinion). The requirement for experience is three years experience with no qualifications on what that experience needs to be. Let's be sure they do better with shooting incident reconstruction.
