Recently, RID placed the Knowledge and the Performance SC:L test on moratorium. Currently, eighty-four SC:L candidates are left in limbo with no foreseeable or certain option to take the performance test for at least the next 2-3 years.

We have crossed the difficult hurdle of passing the SC:L Knowledge Exam. In accordance with the agreed upon SC:L certification process, we feel strongly, it is now RID’s responsibility to provide us the SC:L performance exam. This petition is to garner the support of the RID voting body in effort to persuade the Board of Directors by mail referendum to fulfill their responsibility to us.

RID member number 19775, CI, CT, and SC:L. We need more SC:Ls, not less, and have written laws requiring them in my state.

It is more than unfortunate that RID does not have a performance exam for those people who are prepared and qualified to to take it. It leaves them in the position of limited work and lacking ability to earn the living that they have a right to, based on skills.

I was 2 weeks away from being in limbo just like this group of motivated interpreters. I made it by a hair. I feel for you guys, I really do! It is comparable to a university phasing out your major when you only have 2 semesters left. Yeah... No. An alternative option must be considered for this group. We need them!

RID Member #26143. I am a limbo SC:L candidate. I have completed the knowledge portion and would hope that o would have the opportunity to complete the performance portion. I understand if some members feel it is out dated but I can't see how you can rightfully end this test with first having a replacement in place.

Those of us who have passed the SC:L Written exam should be allowed to finish our 5-year period of taking (and retaking if necessary) the SC:L Performance portion, as was contractually agreed to us when we paid for, took, and passed the written test. 25527 I understand the arguments about the test being obsolete, but this cohort was not given a warning that their investment would be taken. I think it is reasonable to ask that they be allowed to complete the testing process by the end of this year before permanently retiring the SC:L and moving forward with a new test.
