This Officer was just doing his job. My question is why is it now a criminal who "CHARGES" an Officer when he clearly sees its the Police and is told several times to get on the ground called a "victim". It would be a travesty to even fathom a retrial and sends a message to every criminal they can get away with such actions. Its being made to be a race issue by racists. Its a criminal issue where a criminal, "wouldnt have mattered if they were any color" clearly attacked an Officer when he was clearly being told to stop. I think any officer would have reacted the same way with anyone who cant follow the Law and clear instructions of Law Officers!

Police have seconds to make decisions and when someone is charging at them instead of freezing when told to do so, they have to protect themselves and their lives. Do not put this officer through any more horror. He was doing his job to serve and to protect! This entire negativity towards police is doing no good and is only leading to increased violence in our nation's cities!

To the Attorney General of North Carolina. I have been a sworn law enforcement officer in this state for 25 years and I have never seen anything as embarrassing and humiliating done to an officer in this state as the trial of CMPD Officer Kerrick. No I was not on the scene that fateful night but I can tell you from personal experience that we have a split second to make a decision and Officer Kerrick was placed in that position on this night. I do not care what the public thinks with their Monday morning quarterbacking. I'm pretty sure in my 25 years that I've read numerous times that the U.S. Supreme Court has said that you can only go on what the officer knew at the time and in this case the officer was responding to a possible breaking and entering in progress, encountered a person meeting the description and challenged and the subject charged instead of complying. If you know anything about law enforcement officers you would know that the last thing an officer wants to do is take another persons life, but sometimes we are placed in that position and we have to make a life altering decision, not only for the other person but for ourselves as well. This case has been a travesty from the beginning. I have never seen an agency charge one of their own after such a short investigation, 19 hours, are you kidding me. When I was involved in an on duty shooting years ago it took almost two months before the District Attorney ruled that it was a justified shooting. This was after a thorough investigation by the NC State Bureau of Investigation. Do not take any of this to mean that I do not care about the family of the man that lost his life in this case. I mourn their loss with them, but that does not mean we have to destroy another life in the process because the retired Chief of Police was a coward and could not stand behind his officer who was doing what he was trained to do. there is no way this officer should even be on trail----the man charged him and was told to get on the ground 3 times---for me that is enough not counting the other things that were exposed.
