Young women should be allowed to form their own opinions based on the information they have gathered. The job of educators is not to tell children what to think, but to teach them to enthusiastically learn and gather facts that will allow them to thibk for themselves.

You are so brave, Kate! I can’t help but feel proud to share an alma mater (shoutout mater) with you and so many other bold women. I stand with you, Kate, and I stand with a Sacred Heart that celebrates students for their convictions, instead of making them feel small.

Dear Current CHS Teacher, Thank you for this amazing and honest response. As a former CSH parent, it is important to know that many of the faculty recognize the egregious actions of the administration. I read both carefully crafted letters by Pamela Hayes and found them to be bland, contradictory and lacking any true leadership. It seems that she and the Bishop are willing to lead the school on a march back to the 1950's. Your statement that there are efforts to "close down certain perspectives and stifle ideas" is deeply disturbing and shows complete disrespect for the goals and criteria promised in the Sacred Heart mission. I have spoken with many of my friends who also sent their daughters to CSH, and we feel powerless. When a student is bullied by her classmates, the teachers take action. In this case, we have a student who is being bullied into submission by the people who are entrusted to provide her with the best education possible - the teachers, administrators and board of trustees. It is unfortunate that CSH would rather cater to their deep pocketed, narrow minded over zealous Catholic donors who are too ashamed to sign their names on the negative comments they have submitted anonymously on this petition and elsewhere. There is a serious hidden agenda going on here that has nothing to do with a sticker, and Kate is the unfortunate scapegoat! Again, I appreciate your candor and join you in praying for positive closure of the deep schism that has been opened in the Sacred Heart Network. Gina Gorman

Is the school and Bishop Frank Caggiano aware of all of the great things Pannned Parenthood does for women?

Raised Catholic, 16 years of religious education at catholic schools. We need to do better, for all of the women. Institutions that educate young women, need to empower women to think for themselves and advocate for themselves. I fail to see how this contributes to this mission. I stand with Kate.

For any who read this, please know that I and many of my colleagues teaching at Sacred Heart Greenwich stand with Kate on this issue. We are appalled at how the administration has handled this and, despite official statements to the contrary, the response to Kate's sticker has had a chilling effect on discourse at the school, both for teachers and students. We most emphatically do not support the administration's actions. To those who say that this is a private school and students agree to abide by its rules when choosing to attend, know that in my many years as a teacher here, there has never been a policy about stickers on laptops other than to avoid profanity. Over the years I have seen stickers espousing much more direct political views and affiliations and nothing was said to students. Leading up to last year's election, there were stickers for political candidates and nothing was said. Thus, students as well as faculty tasked with the day-to-day job of enforcing rules were taken by surprise at the reaction to Kate's sticker. I can tell you from years of teaching both at CSH and elsewhere that kids are generally fine with following rules and guidelines -- as long as they are consistently enforced. They have a highly developed sense of fairness which this situation violates. Even students who previously had no position on Planned Parenthood are upset at the apparent arbitrary and selective targeting of a peer at the behest of individual faculty and administrators who took offense at her laptop sticker. There has been no clarification for teachers as to what the policy now is, leaving both us and students in the dark as to what is acceptable expression and what isn't. We are told that a blanket prohibition on stickers and other paraphernalia is not going in effect, which of course leads to natural follow-up questions: which particular stickers are prohibited and which aren't? Who decides what is acceptable and what isn't? There has been no sat
