I Stand With Kate Murray

Planned Parenthood is my primary care physician. In this society which does not care for the medical needs of it's citizens and holds my physical health hostage for insurance premiums, cutting monthly payments, and deductibles I have been forced to seek alternative care. PP has assisted me on many occasions in getting referrals to low-income doctors, checking my thyroid and kidney health, helping me with depression and anxiety related issues, as well as tending to my every day health. They are not an abortion clinic nor do any state or federal tax dollars go to funding abortions there. I am ashamed of Convent of the Sacred Heart for being so closed minded about the health and future well being of their women. This is bigger than the right-to-choose or the right-to-life or who signed a student handbook, this is about freedom of speech and the ignorance of those who would write PP off as an abortion clinic. Without PP I would not have any primary care physician at all, nor would I have been able to get affordable medical treatment in times of need. I stand with Kate Murray. Do not deny her success, CSH, or we will deny you in exchange.

If you are against abortion, by all means, don't have one. And if you want to have ridiculous abstinence lectures that no one listens to, by all means, continue. But don't get in the way of women's health or insert yourself in a conversation that is between a woman her doctor and God. Or raise girls in an atmosphere that silences voices that might be different from your own, just because you disagree. That is exactly the attitude we need less of in the world and is directly against Sacred Heart Goals - hello "social awareness which compels to action" or "personal growth in an atmosphere of wise FREEDOM". Also, where does the school draw the line? Would a student be expelled for supporting gay or transgender causes? Today, I made a $20.04 donation to planned parenthood in honor of Jayne Collins. She'll be recieving this card in the mail in place of any donation from me this year.

Sacred Heart is a school in which students are initially asked to sign and abide by the student handbook which highlights Christian beliefs. One strong Christian believe is the disapproval of abortion, rather the taking of ones life. To have an opinion on this controversy is perfectly fine, as we are human beings entitled to freedom of opinions. To have a sticker supporting your opinion which rebels against that of Christianity's however, is unacceptable. You signed the contract, you chose to join this Sacred Heart community, and you must respect all aspects of this school and what it stands for, or you should not attend it. If you feel so strongly about this issue, then you must find a place that accepts your overt expressions.

Thank you, Kate, for standing up for what you believe in and being an example for the rest of the girls and alumnae. CSH should be proud of you; I am sorry for the way you are being treated and truly disappointed in and embarrassed by the school and its leadership.

I stand with Kate and her right to express her views. Regardless of one’s position on Planned Parenthood, limiting someone’s freedom of speech is oppressive and wrong.

This student not only deserves her freedom of speech but it is imperative that youth supports organizations like Planned Parenthood, or ANY socially supportive collectives that they see fit. It is immoral and wrong of the school to consider punishing this student in any way, and it is a shame that they do not support the beautiful vocalisation of their students.

Cancer screenings, std testing, and more. What's not to love about PP?? Women's health > restrictive viewpoints.
