I know it’s a private school and there is an enrollment contract, but your constitutional rights supersede that Kate! Do not compromise your convictions and stand strong!

This is a petition in support of Kate's actions for free expression and against Sacred Heart's biased censorship and hypocrisy. Trolls and uninformed individuals should respect this space and cry wolf elsewhere.

The Convent of the Sacred Heart was my elementary school. I stand with Kate Murray! This is not okay, to tell a student they cannot support a women's health organization. The idea of Planned Parenthood being all about abortion, is ABSOLUTELY FALSE. Women need this organization for their HEALTH and WELL BEING. It is low cost and free in some places. It sometimes the ONLY HEALTH PROVIDER for women. They offer all the facts for sexual health. To deny the fact that women or men (young men and women) are or will be sexual beings is utterly ridiculous. Stating that a sticker stating that a person supports Planned Parenthood, is the mark of an educated and aware young person.

Was Kate actually making a political statement or just putting a sticker on her laptop? It seems that many people are using this incident to promote their own personal agendas. I'm a current parent of CSH Greenwich (10 years, 2 girls) and speaking from experience, the girls just want a bunch of colorful stickers on their laptops (which I've been surprised was even allowed). Aside from that, this incident isn't an issue of Free Speech or Women's Rights, Planned Parenthood, or political beliefs, etc. THIS IS A SIMPLE ISSUE OF CONTRACT. When you sign the Enrollment contract and pay your deposit, you also sign that you AGREE to follow the Policies and the Mission and Goals and Criteria of the school. You don't get to choose to follow only 70%, 80%, or 90% of the rules - it's all or nothing - and you knew it all upfront. CSH is a private, independent, Catholic school which is deeply rooted in Catholic values (168 years) and in the Network of Sacred Heart schools. The Mission and Goals and Criteria are prominently posted on the website in the "About Us" section: https://www.cshgreenwich.org/page/about-us/mission--goals-and-criteria (including Goal #1 which states "...The entire school program affirms that there is meaning and value in life ...".) You also have to write an essay about how you feel about all the Goals and Criteria in order to even be offered enrollment, so there is the suggestion that you are of like-mind about the Goals and Criteria before you ever even apply. Removing the sticker or expulsion is most likely the only option that the Administration can give in order to require all students and parents to adhere to the Contract they sign each year. We also don't know administration's side because they are not allowed to talk about it. However, according to the Greenwich Time article, Kate was offered to stay at the school or return next year providing she doesn't display the sticker. It's a private school, not public. However, Administration

Has no one noticed the lack of conversation by the current student body as well as their parents? This is not a school where free speech is acceptable.... well unless its the view of Pam Hayes, the board heads, and the best donors. ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY NOT THE GIRLS NOT THEIR EDUCATION!!! These girls and families are afraid that they will be targeted next. This year its not only the girls being censored... maybe someone should look at whats going on with the teachers!!!! especially in the middle school. Yes this is a catholic school, but this is not how other catholic schools behave and this is definitely not what is sold to perspective families. Its time the greater community stops hearing just the rumors of how bad this school has become since Pam Hayes has taken over... now they can have a sneak peek. Lets hope the full story comes out because their is a lot more wrong with this school then right. And yes if no one has noticed... more and more families are leaving, but so far they have been able to sell the old image of the school and "easily replace".. may the current situation come to light and perspective families choose wisely. Most families are their because of the teachers and with how they are now treating them... the last hold out for this school. If the teachers start leaving the school will fall and fall hard.

As a "child of the Sacred Heart," I am repulsed by this whole situation. Kate, you rock. #IStandWithKateMurray

I am shocked and frustrated that an educational institution tasked with empowering young women would demonize an organization whose purpose is to provide healthcare for low-income women throughout the US and then punish a young woman for visibly advertising her support for this same organization. I am ashamed that this institution is associated with the religion that I was raised in, and incredulous that the school administration has chosen to hide behind the diocese while making an example out of a student for daring to exercise her first amendment rights.

Dear Mary Anne Shea, Thank you for the best comment I have read so far. "Pam Hayes has publicly and rather shamefully violated that tradition by her timidity and her collusion with the diocesan bishop." I applaud you for your courage in not writing this anonymously. And I also I wonder what the Pope would have to say about this, particularly since we all know that JESUS NEVER EXCOMMUNICATED ANYONE!

As an individual who attended parochial school my entire life & who FULLY supports Planned Parenthood, the decision from this school is WRONG. As an institution that is supposed to lead strong individuals, this put down of a sticker is completely ridiculous.

As a 2008 graduate of CSH NYC, I am appalled to see such a level of censorship occurring in 2018. What a short-sighted and ignorant perspective on the true purpose of Planned Parenthood. It is concerning that those who are educating our future leaders of tomorrow clearly need to be educated. I will once again be donating to Planned Parenthood but this time on behalf of CSH.

And here is the problem!! Such an ignorant response. you use the word 'conform" no one should have to conform plus is it there policy? if it is then why are students allowed pro life stickers on their computers and to wear Trump T shirts to school? . If there is a rule then everyone has to adhere to it . Double standards. Disgusting!

Sacred Heart - If you're censoring a student's free and peaceful expression of her beliefs than you are censoring her Constitutional rights. You can't pick some causes to favor and reject those you don't like. Kate Murray is an excellent example for ALL WOMEN to stand up and protect our democratic ideals, including Free Speech.

No expulsion for supporting planned parenthood. As an alumni I feel it stand against everything we were taught. Planned parenthood provides services to people who have no other recourse no health insurance but need a mammogram. Not abortions. I am so disappointed that I am even writing this. The school that raised me didn’t raise me like this
