Don Cherry has been fired from Hockey Night in Canada by Sportsnet for comments made on November 9th broadcast of Coach's Corner in support of Canada's Military and the wearing of Poppies on Remembrance Day.
The Coach was speaking about how in his observations Rural Ontario seems to embrace the tradition of Poppy wearing more than Mississauga and downtown Toronto.
“You people … you love our way of life, you love our milk and honey, at least you can pay a couple bucks for a poppy or something like that."
“These guys paid for your way of life that you enjoy in Canada, these guys paid the biggest price.”
I do not believe his choice of words "You people" were directed at immigrants but rather at anyone who ignores the importance of the sacrifices made by our fallen so we all can have the freedoms we enjoy. I know Don should sometimes choose his words more wisely, but I can vouch from personal experience that he is far from a racist. The passion in his heart often gets ahead of his words, and supporting our Military is as big a passion to him as supporting Canadian Hockey.
Well I stand with Don!

What a disgrace to Sportsnet and to fire a man who always speaks his mind. This is nothing new. There are bigger issues in this world and to fire and make this a big outrage, especially on REMEMBRANCE DAY when we are to honour our vets....who fought for our freedom and our freedom of speech. Disgusting.
