I Have Been Significantly OverCharged for Water I Didn't Use

We are one of the hundreds of families in Lost Creek to see their water bill show an unrealistic increase in water usage during a month in which we were out of town for 10 days. Something is obviously not right and needs to be addressed by The City of Austin immediately.

We were grossly overcharged for water in our August 19th bill. The bill should have been way down during the month since I was away on business but instead shot up 37%!

The water usage indicated on our August water bill is more than double what is was in July and significantly higher than it was in August 2014.

For the month that ended August 17th we were charged for 21,000 gallons of water. The previous month our water usage was 8,000. In 12 years in Lost Creek I've never seen such a sharp spike in our usage…

I have lived here 13 years, and my alleged usage last month was double the previous high over that time. This is simply not credible, there is no explanation for it.

Our water bill said we used 40,000 gallons in August & we were out of town for a week. We have never had such a high bill. Something has to be wrong. It's amazing that so many here in Lost Creek are having the same problem.

My water usage is 5 times higher than my previous high under MUD.

Looking back over old bills (have about 18 months on record) this month's past bill was more than 2.5x the highest water bill I had ever paid. Compared to same period Year Ago, my water bill was $119 and it was $293 this year. Increase over last month was a 3.5x increase in usage. Admittedly, I did turn on the sprinkler at some point, but an increase from 7k gallons to 24K gallons is not realistic without some other change (water pressure increases, for instance).

Our water bill has been consistently going up over the last few months, with the highest reading ever occurring in August, when we were out of the state for 3 weeks. This is simply not feasible, and completely unacceptable. For authorities to say that residents are responsible for a leak is irresponsible, due to the apparently wide-spread issue the entire neighborhood seem to be facing at the same time.

My water bill is almost triple the amount from July, going from $109.21 in July to $307.40 in August. July usage at 11,900 and August at 27,600! We have examined our house and pool for leaks and found nothing to account for this large increase.

Our August 2015 water bill reflected usage 5 times higher than than our highest recorded usage in recent years with no changes in habit or situataion.

We are trying to check if this could be happening to new customers of City of Austin, folks who have either moved into houses in this area or whose utility provider changed to city of Austin. I moved here in Mid of May. June,July bill was not that bad, August bill is 6 times.

10-20K gallons last previous bill. Latest bill is 59K gallons. Checking my water meter every 24 hrs since I received my last bill, usage can't exceed 10K. Had a licensed professional check for leakages, there is no leakage.

My experience mirrors everyone else's - clearly something is off!

Our water bill went from under 5k a month for the last 12 months to over 25k for August. We did not change our watering.

Consumption in July was 11400. Consumption in August 39500. I was told by customer service that this is indicative of a leak - which we do not have.

My water bill tripled and more. It said we used 71,000 gallons. There are just the two of us living here now , the kids are gone. Something is very seriously wrong. I did call the utility service and they said I need to call a plumber. I have one coming on Thursday !!

Water bill has gone by almost 4x between July (4800 gal) and Aug (17400 gal).
