Husband (Ron Smith) deceived his wife (Angela Smith) into becoming an authorized signer for a business account for the 'Ponzi' scheme. Angela was a homemaker for 11 years without any business knowledge. Ron Smith lied to her every day about successfully maintaining investment club 'Safe Guard 3030'. Ron harmed Angela's mother, father, children and her best friend. He stole her mother's identity. The government took her youngest son's (Alexander) birth certificate and confiscated a small amount of money from her oldest son's (Ruben) savings account. Not to mention all of the other emotional scarring they have because of this. Angela's father (Charles Duty) & her best friend (Kristen Grazioli) invested their life's savings into this "investment club" of Ron's, which is now gone forever. Charles Duty was convicted on a federal perjury charge on April 11, 2012 for something he confused when giving two separate answers to a question; asked first in a grand jury, and then during a trial while on the witness stand. Conveniently the judge kept Charles's diagnosis of Dementia and possible Alzheimer's disease, along with his prescription for Aricept, out of the hands of the jury who were hearing the case. Charles's medical state was not the only information that was kept from the jury. His veteran's record was also withheld. Charles served in the US military from 1966 - 1969. His purple heart, bronze star,and extended tour of Vietnam meant nothing now that the government he once served is punishing him and his entire family. Ron scammed Charles for approximately $100,000 and many others for a lot more. Angela was also convicted for this scam that she knew nothing about. The court wants Charles's property and possessions, they won't stop until everything is ruined for this entire family. Angela was found guilty based on a character attack, incompetent legal representation and was refused to allow Ron to testify at her trial during sentencing. Ron acknowledged that not only did he deceive victims, but he lied and deceived his own wife as well. If Angela goes to jail her children will be without her for 3 years of their lives. Unfortunately the Virginia court system has successfully taken a Father (the real criminal), loving Mother, and now a Grandfather with Dementia, from the children and the rest of their family. Angela's family is already scarred and broken by what they've been few the past few years. Please sign this petition, for justice.
