The purpose of this petition is to gain support for the inclusion of coverage for the Gardasil vaccine in our student health plan!
WHY? Some quick facts:
- Human papilloma virus (HPV) is a sexually transmitted virus that can cause cervical cancer, penile and anal cancers, and genital warts.
- Condoms DO NOT provide full protection against HPV.
- Unlike other STIs, HPV CANNOT be tested for.
- Currently, Gardasil is the ONLY vaccine that protects against HPV and genital warts.
- Gardasil is NOT covered by OHIP for anyone born before or during 1993.
- The cost of this vaccine is a total of $450 (3 doses, $150 each, are required for protection).
- Officials were actually considering including coverage for this vaccine in the student health plan, but it was ultimately vetoed because it is considered a “preventative measure”.

I have been hearing from so many of you who find the cost of the vaccine prohibitive and frankly dangerous. The administration continues to hide behind the label of preventative care but I am currently drafting a formal response to challenge that logic directly.

Seeing this momentum grow reminds me why I started fighting for my own health and the health of my friends. It is incredible to see so many of you recognizing that our preventative care should not be treated as an optional luxury.

This is so unfair. We pay enough in fees already and the school should be looking out for our health.
Ridiculous that they label it preventative so they don't have to pay. It is literally healthcare.
finally someone said it! i wanted to get it but couldnt afford the cost on top of tuition.
good luck to everyone trying to get this fixed. it should be a total no brainer
450 dollars is absolutely ridiculous for a student to pay. this should be covered under our plan period.
