Stop Howell's Astroturf

As this is a discussion I'd like to defend Howell's plans to build this facility. The OP suggests that: "This is in the heart of a conservation area and on listed land, in a city with unused all weather pitch capacity - at Glantaf, at Radyr, on Manor Way, at Cardif Uni (Talybont) and Cardiff Met Cyncoed." As an organiser of local sports in Cardiff I can say that Cardiff requires more of these facilities. Glantaf and Radyr are very popular amongst local sports team and availability of these facilities is limited. Taylbont has two facilities yes (AstroTurf and 3G) but both are popular and the latter does not have the dimensions fit for some sports. Finally Cardiff Met do not let out their 3G pitch to the local community, and their AstroTurf is in high demand due to its location. Cardiff then has more facilities than the OP has listed; however, very few of these are 3G pitches. Cardiff City own the House of Sport, which is not financially viable for clubs to use at over a £100 an hour. Powerleagues and Gol have five a side 3G facilities but are readily booked in the week for lucrative 5 a side leagues. Cardiff High has a new 3G facility, but only half of it is floodlit making it impracticable. Bishop of Llandaf have a 3G pitch but do not have floodlights. The majority of the facilities in Cardiff are either too expensive or out-dated. To improve sport in 2014's European Capital of Sport (Yes, it's Cardiff) we need facilities such as the one proposed at Howell's. South Wales, especially in the Cardiff District, lags behind Wales and more importantly England in terms of community facilities for sport. Anyone involved with community based schemes will know this. What Howell's will be providing is a facility to help improve our sporting prowess in South Wales. Giving the community a chance to play sport; children (boys and girls), those with disabilities, and more. Let's not assume this facility will be taken up by loud-mouth, swearing men who blight the

The development is inappropriate for a conservation area and invasive for nearby residents

Over the past 20 years, school has almost doubled in size and has become a big business. Considerable negative impact on roads in the immediate area, traffic congestion is a constant problem. The Astroturf initiative will make things even worse

This is wanton vandalism in the heart of a conservation area. It will be totally out of keeping with the local built environment.

I am opposed to the development of floodlit five-a-side football pitches would hae a detrimental impact on the residents who live around the perimetre of the fields at Palace Road and Pencisely Road as well as thecottages that back onto these fields near the Churchill Hotel. There would be cetain visual impact - visual pollution with the flood lights and added noise pollution from the activities taking place outside of normal school hours. This will have an serious negative impact on the lives of the existing local residents.

Very disappointed that the school is not considering the environment or local people.

Llandaff has been my home for more than 20 years, during that time I have seen the inevitable build up of traffic particularly in Cardiff road! this plan will undoubtedly increase the problem and with similar existing facilities in close proximity I see no reason for this moneymaking facility.

"OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY IS BASED ON AN ETHOS OF MUTUAL RESPECT AND CONSIDERATION" This statement of philosophy dated January 2014, is taken from Howell's School anti bullying policy. Regrettably it seems that this ethos is not extended to the school's neighbours within the local community, in particular, the residents of The Mews, Llandaff Place whose quality of life will be severely effected if the proposals to construct astroturf pitches are made a reality.

There seem to be three challenges: 1) It is likely that the plans are being commercially driven. 2) They detract not enhance the public realm of the conservation area and 3) Ongoing developments in the area impact on residents (Pencisely Road layout, school back entrance/signage and new housing on site of bowls club).

This project will have an extremely negative effect on the immediate residents, the conservation area, the surrounding residents due to increased traffic (thus possible decreased property value), as well as the community as it will detract from other sports facilities such as Radyr and Talybont.

The proposals need to be articulated in detail and the full impact considered in depth for the community as a whole.

This seems to be a totally inappropriate development in such a residential area

The proposed sports facilities will cause disturbance to the immediate residences from the floodlit illuminations and the noise pollution from the intended sports late into the evenings.

STOP!

Conservation areas are to be preserved not destroyed.

Total disregard for local residents and will bring house prices down. The fact this is a conservation area makes this even more unbelievable!
